Bitten again by the change to trains going to Woolwich Arsenal at random times vs Beckton I had to take a quick walk to West Silvertown but it was a nice journey. Loads of people on it already, and not just trainspotters! Going through the old Stratford regional station is quite random.
One note, does anyone else think the new "woman" who does the announcements sound terrible? It sounds like the original announcements are prerecorded and the new ones are supposedly in the same voice but sound terribly computerised and unnatural. Always thought that since they changed to "Woolwich Arsenal via London City Airport" but some of the new stations sound appalling!

The new DLR map is on TFL's website showing the extension as open. I will look forward to FINALLY using it when I leave work tonight. Where can I find this map?

Apologies, I had to empty my cache to see the new maps.
I notice that the DLR Daisy shows 'Stratford Int' which is much better than the 'S'ford Interna'l' that was being displayed on the platfrom LED screens, does anybody know if this has been changed?

Is there any connection from Stratford International to the outside world yet? Or is the only way to get there by DLR or HS1?

Managed to get on one of the first trains today. A little disappointed by the fact that the services alternate between Beckton and Woolwich Arsenal. I'm sure we were promised six trains per hour between both destinations at all times of the day. I will be holding Boris personally responsible for this let down, since he seems to be wanting to take responsibility for everything nowadays.
It's such a mess with 5 minutely services to Beckton off peak and 10 minutely during peak hours!

Or is the only way to get there by DLR or HS1? the shuttle buses are still running - a notice says they will continue until 20th September, after which you will be able to walk throughb Westfield (although I thought that was to open on 13th?) Several people on the DLR I used seemed to be using St Int for real, to catch trains at HS1. Trains from the branch were still running to Woolwich well after 7pm - the indicators said I was on the penultimate one, I reckoned the first Beckton would have left StInt about 7pm, but at 7:20 i was still passing StInt ("via C Airport" - ugh) trains on the Woolwich branch.

Westfield Stratford City will still open on the 13th AFAIK. What I'd like to know is what the Platform 11 exit at Stratford will be used for once the shuttle's withdrawn..and how many Regional-International journeys will involve the shuttle on the 20th (for kicks or otherwise).

Yeah. And anyway, the opening of Westfield Stratford City is irrelevant considering that we already have a ten minutely train service connecting the two stations. But yeah, what does everyone think of the appalling idea to have trains to Beckton off peak and Woolwich Arsenal peak hours?

Except people will have to pay for the DLR train, but walking through Westfield will be free. No different to some other train routes around the country where the peak service has a different pattern to the off-peak (including the peak hour DLR trains which avoid West India Quay). After all, it only needs a change at Canning Town to make the same journey and the different patterns probably depend on the loadings of the services on each branch, especially with the Airport on the Woolwich branch.

I've read somewhere (I think in Ian Visits' blog) that the Woolwich Arsenal branch has a very peak-weighted loading level - i.e. it needs more trains in the peaks than the off-peaks. My experience of King George V to Woolwich Arsenal at different times of day certainly matches this. In contrast ExCeL and UEL on the Beckton Branch are busier during the off peak (the traffic is spread more throughout the day, with less concentrated in the commuter peaks), although there is certainly a significant evening peak flow, particularly to Royal Victoria. Taken together this explains the service pattern - the Woolwich branch needs more trains in the peaks than the Beckton branch does, but the Beckon branch needs them more in the off peak (particularly the inter-peak) than does the Woolwich branch. If there are insufficient units to run all day to both destinations, then this is a sensible service pattern from an operational point of view. It's obviously too early to know the travel patterns on the new branch, but I'm sure that when they are known the service will be revised to better accommodate it if required.

I've read somewhere (I think in Ian Visits' blog) that the Woolwich Arsenal branch has a very peak-weighted loading level - i.e. it needs more trains in the peaks than the off-peaks. . It seems that no-one had told the hordes on the platform at Canning Town when I was there last night - a huge crowd could be seen on the high level platform as my almsot empty StratInt - Woolwich train came in on the low level. Now, of course, some of those people may have been going to Beckton, but the next train indicated on the high level was a Woolwich (3 minutes). Is there nthing at Canning Town to tell people where the next train to Woolwich or Beckton is?

I, however, used my London Tube Status Android app when I came back from central today and spotted a Beckton train leaving around the same time as a Woolwich one arrived so I had a brisk walk downstairs and saved myself 5 minutes waiting for the upstairs Beckton one

It's rather strange too that at Stratford (Regional) they still haven't uncovered the stickers on the station signage pointing to the new DLR platforms. Would've thought this should have been a priority - especially there!

They were trying to get a ladder down at about 10:30 on the 31st. It never came.

Excellent 'documentary' GT! Miss Pipe has a future I think in the media industry.... wish my son, 20, could get into the biz after having finished college (art, media & design).
Not knowing the area, I query what there is in the neighbourhoods of Star Lane and Abbey Road stations?

This service is beyond shambolic! Went up to catch a Becton service from the Jubilee at 15.05 this afternoon and as i got to the platform the Becton train was just pulling out. Went down then up to the new platforms to find the dot matrix advertising the next 3 trains going to Woolwich , what happened to the advertised service pattern? I then traipsed all the way back up to the high level platform and waited 5 minutes for my train. Whilst i was waiting for the train, i was shocked to find that some customers were actually going to the platform edge then bending down on all fours, sticking their heads down towards the track to see what time the next train was leaving from the dot matrix situated under the canopy of the new platforms . There are 3 lines on the dot matrix screens, why can't they show the following information to help us poor souls out, its not rocket science. - 1 WOOLWICH ARSENAL 4mins 2 BECKTON 10mins The next train to Beckton will depart from Platform 1 in 4mins

The service pattern on the branch advertised since the opening is: Off peak - all trains run Beckton <-> Stratford International Peak - all trains run Woolwich Arsenal <-> Stratford International. Except I saw a notice at Woolwich today saying that next week all Woolwich services will run to Stratford International, with the normal Bank-Woolwich trains running to Beckton instead. I don't know why though. edit: The notice is on the website at: developments.dlr.co.uk/NewsDetail.aspx?newsid=1355Although it's not clearly worded, it seems that there will be a 5 minute service Woolwich to Stratford International, no Bank-Woolwich serivce and a 10 minute Bank-Beckton service in addition to the normal Tower Gateway-Beckton service.
