I know this sounds stupid, what is a pilot light for and where is it in the cab (is this the all doors closed light?).

The only stupid question is the one you don't ask! It is indeed the doors closed visual, telling the driver that all passenger (and cabs not being used) doors are closed. It can be located anywhere in the cab, in sight of the driver. Infact, certainly on older stock, there is actually more than one - older stock used to have guards, so the pilot light was in different places to suit their role.

Yes, it's officially a "doors closed visual". The location varies by stock - on C stocks there are actually 4 pilot lights which should all light together if no bulbs have blown!

A pilot light tells the driver that all the doors are closed throughout the train.
It differs from where it is stock to stock, but its normally in front of the driver in an obvious place.

On 92 stock, the Pilot Light, or Doors Closed Visual, is the close doors button surround. It lights up red when all doors are closed. If however, any door which isnt closed after 20 seconds, you get a warning on the DTS monitor, telling you which car; you then re-open and try again. If still no luck, go and investigate [where you usually find some w*****has stuck a plastic bottle top in the door runner.]

Also can you see which car it is on an A, C, D stock etc.? Final question ;D is there an alarm/light for the inter-carriage doors on any stock?

Also can you see which car it is on an A, C, D stock etc.? D stock tells you on the TMS in the cab (and we have selective re-open to open doors only on the car where doors are detected open). Both C and D stocks have outside door indicator lights, but they're not always easy to see, especially in monitors. Not as far as I know - certainly not on C or D stock.

All stock from the 73 onward the driver can see what car a door that is not shut on, so no not A or C stocks. No stock has an alarm light for the inter carriage doors.
