Why have they clad the columns in white when the wall is tilled in cream? Looks poor.

Popped by Blackfriars NR today and the new Southbank Entrance and it all seems a bit of a mess.

I see the round columns by the stairs and escalators, previously coloured white, actually had protective covers fitted. Now removed to reveal a silver finish relieved by blue vertical horizontal bands. Rumour is for a 'soft' opening this Monday.

21146, I was rifling through an old thread and found a link to your pictures from 2009. Looking west-ish from westbound platform - Feb 2009 / Feb 2012

According to the closures on the TfL website, the station is supposed to open Sat 25th.
The ends of those platforms do look freakishly narrow.

The TfL closures list has it closed until Saturday 25th February inclusive - that means up to and including the 25th, thus meaning it'll be open on Sunday 26th.
That being said though, as I said in reply #63 above (my source being the notice in the booking on point at Upminster), and as per the Network Rail press release linked to by 'edvid' in reply #64........it will be open this coming Monday, the 20th.

amazing change - from dark with no lights station to fully working station - the lifts looks great - those are simllar to ones found in other stations but something wrong with emergency exit signs - there supposed be wheelchair symbol next to those to say its has refuge or accessible exit route

Now that there's no need to leave Blackfriars for a NR/LU interchange, does the 388 bus still terminate at Embankment?

fyi - TFL has press release which states that station is offically open today = the red text on station list showing blackfriars station has gone means station is open to public

What is all that height being used for? Are there offices above the concourse?

Blackfriars looking good. I think that during peak hours, they will wish they had put in more ticket machines (to be honest I was expecting there to be at least 8) and also a wider gateline

yeah more machines would be nice because only three there - maybe more machines inside NR part

Disagree about the ticket machines. Commuters will buy their travelcards at their home station (hardly anyone lives locally to Blackfriars) or, as is increasingly more common, buy them online and "download" them. There may be some demand for tourists heading for St Paul's, but they are more likely to head for the eponymous Central line station.

The new station is a big improvement on what was there before. I've just realised that the entrance has moved from being from the pedestrian subway level to ground level. Do they have an entrance into the pedestrian subway from within the station or does everyone have to use the narrow stairs outside to use the subway?

Everyone has to use the narrow stairs, at the bottom you can turn right only.
