Can someone tell me if all stock since the 'D''s have been fitted with SAPB's as well? Or if other stocks have been retro-fitted with them during refurbs? Thanks

Spring Applied Parking Brake.
Basically it's a springloaded brake show that is held up by air pressure in the main air line and/or train air line; when one or both of these falls below a certain point, the spring overcomes the air pressure and pushes the brake shoe into place. SAPBRC (SAPB Release Cocks) allow the springs to be 'wound up' and pulled away from their deployed position when the train needs to be moved after an air burst.

What part of the bogie assembly does the SAPB come in contact with - the axle, the wheel or the tyre? I had to help change a brake shoe at Nf - AFAIR it comes into contact with the tyre (on 73s at least).
