Enlightening interview with Head of Development and Planning in The Wharf - www.wharf.co.uk/2011/12/dlr-shutdowns-will-make-servic.html Particularly picked up on - a new timetable from 30 January with 51 of the 53 trains in use during the peaks and - looking at purchasing a further 20 trains by 2016 to increase number of 3 car services. - improvements to real-time service information including rainbow boards and a big drive on social media.

Cheers for that. Running with only two spare trains is going to be fun for the maintenance teams I suspect. Presumably the units are normally pretty reliable?

Actually only one spare train. 5 units, 2 in the shed being worked on, 3 formed into a set available to swap for a faulty set. No, they're not pretty reliable. It's a constant struggle to keep enough going as it is at the moment. Loads of First Line Response Technicians being recruited and stationed in strategic places for when failures occur. Not if, when.

Even the newer B07 trains? They're still made by Bombardier. Each one was delivered from Germany with hundreds of faults.

radbod - I didn't know there were so many faults with the trains!
cityboy - I believe the newer B07 trains are less reliable than the older units, and as radbod said, arrived with far more faults.

A sticker has appeared on the poster timetable at Mudchute Station (and presumably others) that the timetable changes will include 3-car trains on the Bank to Woolwich service during the daytime and increases in frequencies for some (unspecified) evening services.
