There's no Sunday service as the line's primary users are city workers heading in from Waterloo. Very few, if any, work on a Sunday, so there is no need for the line to operate on a Sunday.

Has there ever been a Sunday service on this line?

Has there ever been a Sunday service on this line? A Sunday service operated from 7th March 1943 until 16th February 1947. Initially the hours of operation were 5pm to 10pm only. The purpose of the service was for the benefit of members of the armed services travelling between Waterloo and Liverpool St. Aside from this there has never been a regular Sunday service on the line.

Well it's staffed by Central line drivers - and I would think they would want as many Central line drivers on the Central line around Stratford. You never know though!

Staffed by Central line drivers from Leytonstone to be precise and I had the misfortune to be sent down there two days in a row.
We’ve not been told there will be a Sunday service on the W&C during the Olympics but I think it highly unlikely; we’re struggling to cover the timetable we have at the moment, even when we get the dozen or so new TOps that are currently training we’re going to be pushed to fill the expanded timetable they are bringing in for the Games.
It’s more likely we’ll cancel Saturdays on the W&C than run on Sunday.

It would have been damn useful if they had opened the line on Sundays when either the Jubilee or DLR were closed for engineering works though.

Wouldnt a limited Sunday Service be better than no service?

Wouldnt a limited Sunday Service be better than no service? Hmmm, let’s think, reduce the Central Line for a limited W&C on a Sunday. When they get to Bank it’s highly unlikely to be their final destination so they are either heading to the Northern which runs through Waterloo though admittedly that’s the Charing Cross branch not the City branch, onto the Circle/District which they can reach one stop away from Waterloo at Embankment, the DLR (if it’s running) or the Central and you’ve taken TOps off that to fill the cabs on the W&C. Useful redeployment of limited manpower? I'm just drive them, so what do I know.

The only time I've know it to run on a Sunday in recent years was when we filmed an episode of Dempsey and Makepeace down there.
See separate post here for details.

Er, Roy, I don't know how to tell you this but that was 25 years ago. Next you'll be saying that Charles and Di's wedding was recent.
Don't worry, mate, it's called getting old, I was gutted to be reminded that 35 years have passed since the Sex Pistols released Anarchy in the UK. On 7" vinyl.
I'd pogo along to it but with the Alzheimer's I've forgotten how........

Sorry, I'll post that in the Historic section then BUT, as railways have been around for about 200 years now, 25 years is recent!

The Waterloo & City will be running on Sundays for the Olympic & Paralympic Games ;D ;D ;D Any source for that? I'm not in work until Sunday night so I can't check it right now. If they're going to be taking a bunch of us off the Main to run a Sunday service that's less for the exhanced timetable on the Central. We're struggling to cover the currrent timetable, we've only got about a dozen or so new TOps currently training, can't see how we're going to fill all the duties.

Madness, expect a fair number of cancelled trains on what will be the busiest line during the Olympics. They really don't have a Scooby.
Not that I care, I can only drive one train at a time.........

I think Boris is trying too hard. You cannot expect the transit system in any city to cope with a possible 30% temporary increase in passenger traffic without some delays to journeys occurring. If the increase was long term, new lines would be built and new strategies implemented; but for a 2-weeks event, intending passengers should have the common sense to realize that they have to be content with the infrastructure currently in place and what operators can offer. What Boris could have done was build a flyover from The City out to Stratford, and during the period of the games, this would be restricted to buses and coaches only, and this would have eased the strain on the current infrastructure.

Charleyfarley – Boris doesn’t do detail. He leaves everything to Peter Hendy to sort out.
21146 – that has to be wrong. If the lines are running an hour later then the last Jubilee will go through Waterloo at 01:50, too late for the W&C to catch it back to Stratford. A staff taxi will not get the last TOp back to Leytonstone for their booking off time at 02:30, unless they are putting a night turn on the W&C which we currently don’t do and would reduce the number of TOps on the Central even further.

Unless it has the duty rosters with it you won't be able to see how they think they're going to manage it

Those close-down times apply to other lines (though some finish at 0330!) but presumably some individual variation will take place. Either way they are clearly planning Sunday services on the W&C.

0330 finish? Gooooood. Is the east end of the Central doing that, with Stratford being there? *fingers crossed*

All lines finish at "03:30" on Friday 27th July (opening ceremony). Quite how this going to work is beyond me. Since this isn't all-night running as per NYE, staff will need "evening" taxis to get home, meanwhile the "morning" staff taxis will be going to bid at around the same time. Just how many of these will be able to be covered by the taxi firm remains to be seen!

I suspect that the cabbies will treat it like when it's raining and not take the job until the last minute and push the price up! Unless the mayor is still sadly BoJo who is happy to take cash off Addison Lee and give them LU work and now AL who have now told their drivers to use bus lanes....

Going O/T now, but LU use Radio Taxis Group. I think TFL stayed with Computercabs (which also once had the LU contract), but a friend who recently retired from London River Services went home by Addison Lee so maybe they've got the work now?
