My first post: I remember 1975, 1980, & 1981 when West Ham FC played at Wembley and the undeground ran four specials that called all stations to Aldgate East then non stop to Wembley Park. Can anyone remember what stock? was it COCP? I remember the trains being decked out in West Ham colours probably by the drivers. With S7 stock will we see it again in the unlikely event West Ham get to Wembley again. The playoffs this season might be too soon.

I used one of these specials back in 1975. I seem to recall that it was 'C' stock.

Were not C's banned beyond Barking because they swiped the platforms at Elm Park and Heathway. I seem to recall some transverse seats.

I still have COCP in my mind and how did they get round the ban on C stock beyond Barking which in the District line thread says they were only cleared for passenger service a couple of years ago. I certainly remember in the late 1990's, two c stock were stabled at Upminster and in passenger service and this lasted for a week because they hit the platform edges when laden.

They weren't 'banned' when they were introduced The 'ban' came into effect some time in the late 90's or early 2000's, I believe, and was owing to the possibility of striking the platform edge at Dagenham East.

As West Ham FC might be at Wembley this season on May 19th, will we see a special service as in the "old days"? What stock would be used? Or as more likely "modern technology" will not be able to cope for safety reasons.

Now there is an even chance West Ham FC could be at Wembley on the 19th May, have the planners been working on any specials. I would love to see an S8 but I expect they will tell supporters to travel via West Ham and the Jubilee Line.

"Planners" generally plan...............to defer a decision and have another meeting, (generally with a nice lunch at the end of it).

............yes, and they failed to see the need for a railway into Heathrow, so shut down the West Drayton to Staines branch in the early 60s and built the M25 over it.
On the other hand, a foresighted planner would have used it to run through services from both Waterloo and Paddington at one tenth of the cost of what we ended up with.
It's what planners "do"

There is no engineering works on the District or Met on the 19th May No such luck, just the normal 2 extra trains (470/471) that work the return extras from Wembley Park to Moorgate (as required).

Well Dstock, check it out for yourself. Passenger services were ceased about 50 years ago and the connection at to the SR at Staines taken out. The bit from W Drayton supplied a scrapyard and oil refinery once, but pax traffic now impossible. It doesn't "still run" because it didn't suit "the suits" when closing everything was the order of the day. Just as they couldn't shut the Varsity Line fast enough when they already knew Milton Keynes was about to quadruple in size. The same thing applies everywhere but the lines that had any chance of re-opening were lifted and built over first, (E Grinstead - Three Bridges/(Gatwick), Southwater, Steyning, Henfield etc. But this is the wrong thread to discuss all these. It all makes me get angry, anyway

It was used by trains supplying the construction project at Terminal 5, and still serves an aviation fuel depot at Colnbrook. The section buried under the M25 is further south, betrween Junction 13 and 14, next to the Wraysbury Reservoir - you can see the reamining trackbed (running N-S across the middle of this view and again here (the eastern edge of the industrial estate) The line was severed considerably less than 50 years ago - nearer thirty (1981), although the last passenger services ran in 1965. A connection to the Southern was built in 1940 to allow the route to be used as a diversionary route, and continued to allow access to Staines West fuel terminal until closure in 1991.
