Is that seriously what fare payers money is being spent on, re-branded step plates? There is an RVAR modification on all the step plates, I presume removing the stock type means the same plates can be used on 96TS when that refurbishment gets underway. Regards, Dan

Thanks for the update, moquette. It sounds like some good changes are being made. I wonder if the DVA and DMIs are being updated in accordance to what TfL had planned (in the late '00s) for the 1995ts refurbishment? Other internal changes are repaint/filming to finishes including grab rails I'm still bitter about the 1992ts not receiving similar treatment for their poor condition grab poles...

I agree, there are quite a few units where the graffiti has been cleaned but it has scarred the paintwork so you can still see the message that was written, repaint would be nice. Otherwise they appear to be in good nick. Weirdly there don't seem to be any DM's with sticky tape on the cabs, unlike the 1996 stock which seem to be plentiful. The DMI's on the 95 stock conform to DDA rules so I'd imagine they'd be kept as they are (orange text) whereas the original 96 stock with red ones don't. I'd imagine the interior refurb would see the cars fitted with Barman moquette but not an awful lot else. I'm wondering whether some adjustments to the ATO system to allow 95ts to run on the Jubilee as well might be part of it?

What is the modification? A slot to bond a yellow strip onto flush with the top of the plate. Basically highlights the edge of the step IIRC. Regards, Dan

Thanks for the explanation Dan, makes sense now. I know the newer batch of 96 stock has the yellow warning strip only problem is, it was originally mounted outside the car and over time the dust has covered them slightly. The new roundel and car number decals that I've seen on the 96 stock look a lot better, will there be any improvements to the exterior paintwork soon?

96TS will get the same treatment in due course, but 95TS comes first.

Dan

No point in doing the 92ts grab poles...the cleaners don't clean them any ways and they're always greasy as hell. I recently started using the Jubilee and whilst the interior's are clean I certainly can't say the same for the exterior, what a state those trains are in! Taped up cab ends and pure grease all over the body of the trains. The 92ts with the new body panels, windows and "stickers" make the train almost look brand new.

The DMI/DVA's aren't included in this work - the first wheelchair bay backboards will be fitted later in the work stream. In theory the 96-ts work will follow on from the 95-ts - and as for the 92-ts, more works are planned but driven by maintenance such as the condition of the floor pans that are likely to trigger new floor system/coverings as per the 95s.

TBH I'm glad that they haven't gone ahead with a DVA/DMI update; I find the current Celia system perfectly adequate. Long live "Circle & Hammersmith"

Nice to see the "Tube Lines" generic moquette being sent on the way out. What time will be the first run? I'd love to try it out.

Yes, very nice, especially the handrails no longer being that horrid yellow that they are nowadays. I also looked at the photo of the outside, and I noticed that the door controls have gone!

So the 1995 stock will be transferred to the Piccadilly Line...... Looks ok actually. The interiors were never great on these trains so this refresh is quite nice although it does make the train look like it should be on the Picc!

My second was that there isn't much contrast between the poles and the seats - I thought that the guidelines for visually impaired people said that the poles need to contrast with their surroundings?

I thought that, but then I considered that when standing (?) the poles contrast better with the cream background better than the yellow did. If you are seated this doesn't help at all!

Maybe the comment was posted after you saw the pic or perhaps you don't read the bottom half of the internet - that's where all of the bad stuff happens, right? (See the comments in the Daily Fail) but this was mentioned: Yellow is an option but it s a common misconception that it has to be yellow - the requirement is to achieve 30points of colour contrast and we've worked closely with our accessibility and inclusion colleagues to ensure that this interior meets our requirements - overall the new interior is far superior to the old in terms of compliance.

Think red should have been used on grab poles to contrast and brighten things up a little, think the amount of blue makes it appear slightly oppressive.

I agree that blue is the wrong choice. It doesn't look bad as such, it just looks like a line identity crisis! They kind of remind me of the '09 stock interior but with a Piccadilly-twist! :S

True, but I think it has potential to confused le average punter, again thinking it may be the Central lineI still think that the moquette should be shaded to line colour, like I did here many moons ago: Albeit the colours being a black/grey combo
