In the current Hammersmith and City / Circle WTT, there seem to be a large number of changeover trains i.e. trains that start in the evening, then stable towards the end of the day. There are even two trains (252 and 253) that are booked to start from Hammersmith depot, run to a platform at Hammersmith, then stable. These two trains have a running time of three minutes! I wonder if the train ops bother to put the correct train numbers on them?
Surely the WTT could be devised in such a way so that this doesn't happen? Has this been a feature in previous H&C / Circle timetables? The only reason that I can think of for this is to do with the introduction of S stock. Maybe someone else can elaborate?

These changeover trains have been a feature of the H & C for a long time now it's all to do with the stabling arrangements and lack of space at hammersmith . Certain trains are booked to stable at hammersmith moorgate and aldgate platforms where they can't prepped for service there so they need to come of a depot during the evening where they've been prepared and can then continue in service on the next traffic day. These outstablers then need to be worked back to a depot at the end of the day.

Thanks for the info. However, are trains stabled in places such as Farringdon and Triangle sidings prepped for service? What exactly does the prepping involve?

Don't know if it's still the same but Farringdon & Triangle stablers were prepped & cleaned by staff from the controlling depot. In Farringdon's case Hammersmith(used to be Neasden in the dim and distant past)not sure if Triangle is covered from Hammersmith or Ealing Common(was Ealing Common years ago)
