When did the 96TS start getting new orange DMIs - the ones which display the train number and destination on the front of the train?
I've only noticed them since last week.

The orange ones only feature on the 1996 Mk2 cars, which were introduced when the Jubilee line went over to 7-car back in the mid '00s. The red DMIs still remain on the Mk1s.

I thought the cab front ones were the same backlit LCD segment type on the 4 extra trains as on the 59 originals? All of which were yellow. I too noticed an LED dot matrix one recently. Trial, as and when replacement, or first of a full changeout I wonder?

I imagine it's part of the work being done at present to make these trains fully disability compliant. Not impressed with the 95 stock though, as instead of displaying "KENNINGTON VIA CH+", they now alternate between "Kennington" and "via Charing Cross", which I find less user-friendly. Prefer the old displays! 96 stock is supposed to be receiving a similar refurbishment starting next year I believe - I would imagine the red in-car displays will be replaced with orange, and I wouldn't be surprised if the interiors end up almost identical to the 95 stock.

Prefer the old displays! À la the S stock. I agree with you. When looking at a Metropolitan line train from the side you have to wait about 25 minutes before it'll tell you where it's going! Mind you I suppose the 'via Charing Cross' message needs to be big enough for everyone to see clearly. Just a shame that this way nobody gets to know where their train's going, sighted or otherwise!

I thought that as well when I first saw this thread. I hope the original in-car DMI's (Or as I like to call them, PIS or DVA displays) from 1997 don't get replaced with orange ones, the red looks so cool!

I hope the original in-car DMI's (Or as I like to call them, PIS or DVA displays) Without meaning to go off-topic, I would argue that 'in-car DMI' is a more precise term than the two alternatives you put forward. PIS (or better still, CIS) relates to information systems in general, which come in varying forms from audio to visual. 'DVA displays' implies the visual display on the DVA control in the T/Op's cab!

There is a signaling protein which is genuinely referred to by serious biologists as 'sonic hedgehog'. I can't take it seriously Anyway... I quite like the new ones (North End's objections aside) - the contrast really is apparent in l1group's photo and they are much clearer and easier to read in my opinion.

They're both dot matrix displays, but the original spec used LCD technology whilst the new ones are LEDs. I think.

The original 1992 stock ones were similar, although they were a lot easier to read than original 96 stock ones!
