In the new timetable, provision has been made to stable H&C trains in Upminster depot. These trains will run in service between Barking and Upminster. Does this mean that H&C crews will be roac trained to Upminster, or will they be crewed by District operators? There are only 2 trains scheduled to stable at Upminster, and these are scheduled to begin in February.

I suspect that it'll be a similar situation to the C stock coming from Hammersmith to work District Line services, which will mean a District T/Op driving it, but with a H&C route code and train number.

Incidentally, in the new timetable there are no longer any District line trains stabling at Hammersmith. With the demise of the C stock, there's no longer any need.

It would be awesome if H&C trains actually ran to Upminster, but looks to me that it's very likely to not be available for passenger service.

That infrequent? I do wish it would be in regular service as that would resolve the lack of connections from Arnos Grove to Upminster.

This goes back to a timetable 15 or so years ago when 2 C stocks were to travel in passenger service and stable at Upminster. Lasted about two weeks because the stock was too wide and hit the platforms under certain conditions.

If one S7 train fits then every other S7 train will fit (excluding significant damage or modification)

They do appear to be shown running in service on page 8 of the Circle and Hammersmith & City lines' WTT 32, with the timings in bold. A quick extract:

Colin, the H&C workings to Upminster are shown in the Circle and H&C timetable, but not in the main timetable. There is a separate section which lists them.

Obviously a driver needs to know when the train they are driving is scheduled to be where, but how much do they need to know about the movements of other trains?
I guess signallers need to know about all the trains on the patch they are responsible for, and when incoming trains are expected - but what about anything else?
Does a line controller need to know about trains on other lines?

When all gauging issues are resolved, the flexibility of the S7 Stock will allow virtually any service pattern on the SSL where demand requires it.

it was working timetable number 5 from 29 May 1994 2 C stocks which were both outer rail circles
I remember coming down to Elm Park station to see them and ride them to Upminster and then seeing them come up as Not In Service
Les Calverley told me that it was he himself who put a stop to the 2 C stocks running in service as he was worried about drivers having to use the CSDE override switch

These trains are in passenger service (and some of the weekend ones are technically Circle Lines to/from Hammersmith!) However don't expect anything fantastic on the destination displays, the Hammersmith - Upminster route options were not programmed into the S stock (despite this being on notice 15 months ago) so we are awaiting instructions upon what is to be advised to drivers to show on the destination displays until new programming is uploaded to the S stock options. The drivers duty books usually state the ultimate destination of the train so the driver knows what to put on the display, but for these trips the ultimate destination to Hammersmith isn't even shown which may well compound issues as to what the trains display. (No idea what the H&C book shows.) Initially expect a change of destination to be announced "mid route"!
