Virtually every station has rat traps!! Dunno about the track side of things though.

Anywhere and everything connected with LUL is the rat-catchers domain. I must admit though that in all my time I never ever saw the actual men (I thinks they are like Nuns and Coppers in that they go round in pairs). I have seen evidence of their presence though. By the way they don't only go after rats. Pigeons, cockroaches and other vermin are within their perview too.
(But sadly NOT "Little Hitler" managers)

As far as I am aware, rat-catchers also used ferrets besides traps to catch vermin...

I'm sure I read in my Underground book that they stopped rat-catching (not sure about other vermin) after the war...

As long as rats exist so will the catchers. You can go to any tube station and sooner or later you'll see a rat or mouse running around the track. Sometimes the things will touch the juice rail and are instantly cremated. Not nice I know but a relatively merciful death compared to other methods.

I suppose trains run over a few. Bit unrelated but if anyone has the Video 125 Wessex Electric Weymouth - Waterloo, the driver hits a pidgeon!

Bit unrelated but if anyone has the Video 125 Wessex Electric Weymouth - Waterloo, the driver hits a pidgeon! The same happens on V125's Norfolk Branches video and also on Edinburgh to Aberdeen. In the latter, you can hear a distinctibe 'tut' from either the driver or cameraman... On same subject, I've clobbered a few driving trains.

I've seen rats/mice at virtually every tube station. Once, I threw me sandwiches out at Holborn e/b. By the time I passed the same place just a few hours later, the'y completely gone!!! They also seems to be immune to every known poison. Late one night, I saw a mouse at Waterloo Northern s/b, crafty little thing came up onto the platform, nicked a bit of discarded food on the platform, and dissappeared just as quick. Passengers nearby didnt even blink... I did read somewhere that there is even a species of Tunnel Mosquito, but however true that is, is unknown.

There was many years ago the hoax of Scorpions at Ongar. I forget the details but it fooled 'em for a while.

I did read somewhere that there is even a species of Tunnel Mosquito, but however true that is, is unknown. Googled 'London Underground Mosquito' and looked though a few webpages and discovered this: www.blackwell-synergy.com/doi/abs/10.1046/j.1365-2540.1999.00412.x?cookieSet=1Apparently (not sure how true this is) these Mosquitoes were feeding off a certain something (not sure what it was) but then discovered that Human Blood was much tastier and moved on to us... It feels so nice to know that you're a Mosquitoes Dinner! They must have a field day at Oxford Circus in the peak! ;D

Last time I got bitten was in the staff toilet at Mansion House WB. The wound still hasn't healed completely.

I can't actually remember. I think it might be about West Byfleet or something like that. You see the pidgeon fly across, then a "thump".

When I was at Hainault he used to come round about every 3 months and put some poison down around the halfway line in the yard, the rats used to nest under the wooden walkway.
