Hi all
Like many no doubt I have found the signalling diagrams posted by Harsig to be of great value but I must admit to feeling a bit guilty of just 'taking' information and not offering any in return. Forgive my ignorance but is there anywhere that I could go to take a look at the Signalling notices (or do LUL/LT etc call them 'traffic circulars) for myself. I do actually find researching interesting and quite enjoyable although that maybe down to me being a history graduate...
I feel that I don't have lot to contribute to the forums but certainly have a lot to learn but am keen to go and find out the info for myself instead of relying on other's hard work. I know the NRM has Southern Railway/Region signalling documents from Croydon which include diagrams and locking charts. These include the lines and boxes which are now owned by Network Rail that the Underground has running rights over such as Richmond-Gunnersbury and Wimbledon- East Putney. I have not been able to find much in the catolgue of the National Archives althoughI have not done a thorough search to be fair. An obvious place would be the London Transport Musuem although again I have no idea if they have an archive collection of paperwork/documents and if traffic circulars/signalling notices would be part of this. Signalling notices do crop up at Railfayres- one chap at Stafford often has quite a lot but I understand that he will be stopping going to Stafford from this march. Are there any other similar shows - such as at Reading for instance or maybe the one at the Bluebell for instance?
I seem to recall looking through a book the other day in Midland Counties near where I live which gave details of the contents of the notices. Again I can't remember the title off the top of my head but persume this is not the Dell papers collection that has already been referred to. I do have an interesting bokklet on Underground signalling from tubefacts.com which I thought was good for £5. The series sounds promising and I look forward to the rest of it.
I must apologise for asking lots of questions (as per usual) and if they are ones with pretty obvious answers but I have come to LT/LU signalling fairly late in the day compared to my interest in BR signalling. I would of course be happy to share any info I have got such as for the lines mentioned above oranything I subsequently acquire. Also I must apologise for going on for so long as I tend to do.
