According to RAIL 812, an aquarium has opened in Old Street station I doubt it will be a success. As it says in the Bible, you cannot serve both cod & Mammon.

I went through Old Street today and the aquarium, which was in the pop-up unit between the station entrance and subway 2 when I was there a few weeks ago had popped down again. I can't remember what is there now so it probably isn't anything special.

They were playing some loud music there, last week. Nice tuna but a bit too much bass. The bouncers seemed to have plenty of mussel and were not too chubby, but when I asked about the door policy they clammed up and got a bit crabby - pikey gits.

Handels Water Music, or extracts from the Pearl Fishers?

Whilst it's been (perhaps) mildly amusing, perhaps we could get back on topic? What was the original aquarium all about, why's it gone and where is it now?

Being in a popup space it was only ever intended to be there temporarily. It was advertising itself to be a relaxation space I think, presumably they were selling something (refreshments?) to maybe they charged to go in. I don't know, I only walked past it, didn't pay significant amounts of attention and didn't go in. There is a big effort to try and make Old Street more like Shoreditch, which generally means paying through the nose for something you most likely don't need and could get for much better value elsewhere without all the surrounding pretentiousness (sorry, it's really not my scene!).

I completely forgot when this thread was active, but I took a single photograph of the aquarium - Aquarium in the subway at Old Street, 9 September 2016 (click for a larger version)
