A couple of months ago, someone posted about the Circle and District line terminating trains swapping platforms. I have received an e-mail from TfL stating that this will happen on Sunday 21 May.
I think that this is probably helpful. One of my commutes is between Euston Square and East Putney. In the morning the majority of passengers getting off a District line train at Edgware Road seem to cross over to continue east, we won't need to negotiate the stairs. In the evening I suspect that the numbers getting off each Circle or H&C train seeking to go to Earl's Court or beyond is less. It will be interesting to see if the stairs feel less crowded in future.

So there are 4 platforms at Edgware road (numbered 1-4 from North to South)
P1 - EB to Kings Cross P2- WB (District) to High Street Ken P3 - WB (Circle) to High Street Ken P4 - WB to Hammersmith
Why have the P2 andP3 been switched around on the 22nd of May 2017? How does this make the service more reliable/frequent?? Anything to do with ease of Cross platform interchange? Also another question: there is a siding next to P4.Often when there is engineering work there is a train stabled here. What is the name of the siding and what is its purpose?

Merge completed
Regarding the siding at Edgware Road - this is 26rd. Prior to upgrade works to accommodate the S7 stock, there was an additional siding (25rd). Neither were long enough to take an S7 (only C stock), resulting in one, longer siding using the space previously taken by two.
Up until this week's timetable change, one train would stand spare in the siding all day, providing a 'hot spare' for changeover purposes in the event of disruption (be that to start up a late running train, change over for a defective train or provide an additional train if required) - however, this has been removed in WTT35.
Now, the siding is generally only used to stable one train overnight, used to provide an early first service between Paddington and Gloucester Road, although something could be put away there in the event of disruption. It's often an option of last resort as it can be quite disruptive to through services to shunt in and out.
Special arrangements may apply during engineering works.

The new timetable introduced on 21 May swapped the platforms around to give the Circle Line drivers easier access to toilet facilities on platform 3. A Circle train from Edgware Road to Hammersmith takes 69½ mins, a District train to Wimbledon is 29 mins, facilities also exist at both Hammersmith and Wimbledon.

The 10 minute wait was more than usually aggravating...

The 10 minute wait was more than usually aggravating... Same happens regularly at Earls Court also westbound. A train arrives at platform 3 or 4 and five seconds later one departs from the adjoining platform. There is so much timetable padding with dwell times at Earls Court that surely common sense could prevail when there is no trailing service behind to the same location for some time.

Or even allow the Hammersmith bound trains to precede their connections, rather than waiting for them to get clear.

Does also add some flexibility for turning trains early to recover timetable as Platform 3 is the only bi-directional platform at Edgware Rd, i.e. trains can enter platform from the East or West and leave the platform East or West. Platform 2 of course, can have trains enter from the West only, but depart East or West.

The platform change is going well one week on... For the less initiated. What does this mean please? That's a Circle line train in platform 2 (the old designated Circle line platform). As you can see, platform 3 (the new designated Circle line platform, post-timetable-change), is empty.

Im guessing this happened as a result of a signaller on autopilot seeing the circle line number and routing it into p2 as they'd done for the past however many years, or was there some other reason for it?

Possibly the train had arrived from Wimbledon and been reformed as a Circle. Or platform 3 was being kept clear for a train running through from the east. Or there was already a train in platform 3 when the one in the picture arrived, but departed before the picture was taken.
