The Uxbridge Branch has got a couple weekend closures coming up, following the 23 day blockade of in 2014 plus other closures recently , I can only think of a few examples of untouched sections of track. Area (for clarity) | Point No(s). | Remarks | Uxbridge Platforms | 28/29 & 30/31 | Worked on in 2014? | Access from UXB Sidings to Main | 33/32 & 48/49 | Slip switch on 48/49 to be removed? | Rayners Lane Junction | 11 & 12 | 13 & 14 (tralling) already replaced | Rayners Lane Siding | 9/10 |
|
Do all points on the SSL's (Sub-Surface Lines) need to be non-airworked to be compatible for resignalling or are they being phased out just as components reach the end of their life cycles? Thanks in advance, G.Arrow

Thanks in advance, G.Arrow No need to get rid of air points, although in the long run LU would love to get rid of the air main for other reasons. What does need to go in preparation for resignalling are loose and spring points. The Jubilee and Northern had few of these, SSR has many more. Whilst they do have certain benefits - simplifying the signalling and having less to go wrong - operationally they can be a liability (as demonstrated in the Hanger Lane Junction near miss incident), and I think I'm right in saying current signalling design rules prohibit them for a resignalling.

Correct all new installations points must be locked and detected

It was said before on here that the east facing points at Tower Hill will remain clipped until SMA 3 goes live, will a fixed train stop do the job until then?

There will be a lot of air worked points left slowly but surely they will get converted over time but this will take many years

Where was the logic in removing direct access to the sidings from the westbound?

The old hands on FB have all said they'll regret it if Uxbridge platforms get closed for whatever reason. Nothing will be able to get past Ruislip siding. Perhaps in the fullness of time a new slip could be installed to allow direct access once again. Perhaps not though.

If it’s obvious to us, then you would think it would be obvious to so called railway professionals!

Does the presence of a rail section gap to the east work against elongating the layout of the slip switch to two conventional points?

Due to disruption on the watford branch this morning, I had to handle extra trains that were diverted at Uxbridge, fortunately I managed to accommodate them by a couple of tweaks (including sending one train entering service directly East out of the sidings, a route which thankfully has been left intact), it really really would have been handy to tip out at Hillingdon and shunt into the sidings, the regularly scheduled trains could run as they were and had their booked reversing times and the extras could be kept in the sidings until they can be sent out to Harrow for 'thier own'
I questioned the wisdom of the removal of 49 points 2 years ago with my manager but what impact would a little fish like me have? I agree the biggest pain will if Uxbridge station is closed (and has happened) the service will no longer be able to reverse in the sidings

Is it more, or less, straightforward to add in and modify pointwork and signalling with the new system, as opposed to conventional signalling? What ultimately limits control capacity between the control centre and site installations?
