A-stock heaven at Chalfont and Latimer, November, 1989. Can anyone tell me why some A-stock units had red-painted roofs? Change for Chesham by David Henderson, on Flickr

Ah the memories!
I believe the red roofs were done on one particular overhaul, but it wasn’t repeated.

Five units were done maroon (or Met Line colour) and three red. Then came the decree from the top about corporate standards ....

That colour is beautiful, I'd love to see it return!

Five units were done maroon (or Met Line colour) and three red. Then came the decree from the top about corporate standards .... Standards which allowed the wonderful London Transport transfers to be replaced by the Underground roundel. Iconic as it may be, it never looked right on the A stock.
