Does it need any more? I understand it is not as crowded as the other Overground routes. Not so long ago the DC lines had three-car 313s, so only 9 cars per hour. And on a substantial part of the route there are also Bakerloo trains (6tph), more than doubling the service frequency. Probably not for the traffic solely from Euston, S.Hampstead and High Rd. I'm more concerned for the peak time diagrams that pick up displaced passengers from the Queens Park terminators and the fact that Willesden Jct isn't the backwater it once was either. The Bakerloo is fairly frequent north of Queens Park which covers Willesden Junction. The combined service is more than adequate. Loadings on the North London line at Willesden Junction justify additional trains which is why the 5 car trains are being moved from the DC.

124/102 are the next 2 to join the other 10 units on WA in a few days currently being put through its paces.

two TFL class 317s seen passing Hemel Hempstead just now, heading back towards London, so would appear these are being brought out of storage to increase service capacity.
Looking at Realtime Train data, from Northampton sidings to Ilford TMD
317710 & 317709

Looking at Realtime Train data, from Northampton sidings to Ilford TMD 317710 & 317709 Nope. They are heading from storage in Northampton to Ilford and then onto Wembley to be returned to angel. There are no 317s left on LO. All off lease. There have been none in service since around mid March.

And I, for one, have never been happier!
A 317 service was always a disappointment, and not something to look forward too.
I will be sad once the 315s finish though.

Yep 709/710 were the last ones to be moved from storage back to the ROSCO. LO now offically have no 317s.

Let’s open the champagne! I'd rather have a Schweppes Bitter Lemon (with quinine). I thought that the 315s were going first as some of them were short on miles before major regular maintenance works were required.

The need for PRM modifications made it more attractive to get rid of them first. 317/8s weren’t even allowed to run single, had to be coupled to a /7 to make sure the formation half complied with the new regulations which brought its own set of challenges when allocating stock to unit diagrans. 315s are fine...their issue will be exams and mileage. The service being run by soley 710s is no longer dependent on available units as they are around in abundance and the ones that aren’t here can be ready within weeks, its more to do with available drivers.. when training kickstarts the 315s will be gone within the blink of an eye.

However, the Bakerloo Stonebridge Park terminators don't serve two of the busiest stations on the DC Line, these being Wembley Central and Harrow & Wealdstone. Try travelling from/to these to/from Euston at times when there is either a limited service (e.g. Saturday Evenings) or disruption on the LNWR service. It would have been nice if, as part of the compensation deal with Bombardier, an additional six to eight five-car units were extended from four cars in order to actually give a decent enhancement in capacity on the DC Lines, whilst leaving sufficient four-car units for Gospel Oak - Barking Riverside.

The most recent Bakerloo upgrade service proposal I have is dated 2013 but, since more recent documents are withheld by TfL FoI, for interest (in comparison with current maximum tph in brackets) the proposal was peak service 27tph (22), with 15tph (13) reversing at Queens Park, 6tph (3) at Stonebridge Park, and 6tph (6) at Harrow & Wealdstone, so no improvement north of Stonebridge Park but extra capacity from walk-through trains.

I didn't manage to get a photo but I just saw a Greater Anglia 710 being moved by two freightliner trains down the Midland mainline. That train did look brand new

Whoops thanks. I don't think it was a 755 either as the cab looked more rounded.

What's the difference between a 317/7 and 317/8 which didn't allow the latter to run alone? The biggest issue was 317/8 had no wheel chair area, only tip up bench seats at the end of one DTOS which is for bikes... wheelchair can’t access the area as there is a partition in the doorway. The only place for a wheelchair was to be left in a doorway. 317/7 had a designated area next to what was the old universal toilet of a ex-stansted express train. This meant if you chucked out a 317/8 it had to be attached to a 317/7 to ensure the consist had wheelchair access, even if only a four car was needed.

That will need re-signalling of the line north of Queen's Park and/or a solution to the time taken checking trains are empty before reversal at Stonebridge Park. The timetable already struggles as it is, since the increase of London Overground to 4 tph. The old timetable worked fairly well (except for the frequent late running of northbound Bakerloo trains), with 3tph Overground, 6tph Harrow and 3tph Stonebridge Park; giving a five minute interval north of Queen's Park. Addition of the extra Overground train broke the pattern and now the Bakerloo is no longer a regular ten minute interval at Harrow and the Overground / Stonebridge Park services don't fit nicely in the middle. Adjustment of Willesden Junction, to allow Bakerloo trains to reverse in the bay there, might be a better solution than adding another 3 tph to Stonebridge Park.

But upthread your previous post on tis subject [30\04\20] said QUOTE 124/102 are the next 2 to join the other 10 units on WA in a few days UNQOUTE which implied 124/102 were 2 added to 10 to make 12 back then. No other msgs in between. Does that mean we are at 14 now, or didn't 124/102 happen, or for some reason 2 have stopped ? -- Nick

At that time only around half were cleared for passenger use. In summary 12 units are available to be used in service although there are slightly more on site.

Hello,
I’m trying to collate information on what stock trains run on the Overground as of current or foreseeable future. Appreciating there’s info on this online scattered around but with the delays around the introduction of the Class 710 trains they (the info that is) are unreliable. I'm looking for up-to-date info if possible pls. So can someone please confirm/amend/comment on my “thoughts” being right or wrong?

No date on 710 introduction for Romford-Upminster, but stop signs are certainly there at Emerson Park for it.

NLL/WLL (The two are one and the same, even prior to the current situation the various shorts to Willesden don't run aside from the extremes of service) will also see a handful of 710s in 5-car form to displace additional 378s to the ELL (which also incorporates the SLL, again one and the same). Chingford/Enfield/Cheshunt are one and the same and diagrams interwork between all three branches throughout the day. Should probably be classed as 'West Anglia'. No 710s on Romford-Upminster yet. No dates for full 710 workings on either West Anglia or the DC, and unlikely to happen until more clarity appears surrounding current events. 378s will be running significantly longer than "2021+", the bulk of the fleet is barely 10 years old! There are no further changes on the horizon for the Overground once 710 rollout is complete.

The North London Line / West London Line will be getting six 5 car 710s for service uplift, and so some 378s can be cascaded to the ELL for service uplift there too. It seems likely they will cover the Richmond-Stratford service given they are fitting TPWS on the Richmond branch. I haven't figured out whether the 710s will cover all the Richmond-Stratford diagrams or just some of them (though visually distinct trains would certainly make it nice and easy for the passengers!).

Surely not *all* services? There has to be more than just 6 trains on that service. However, it might be that they will be dedicated to that service, that is until service disruption sees a 710 end up going to Clapham Jcn via Olympia!
