Does anyone know why the closure affecting the northern side of the Circle lin was put in at 22:00 last night please, rather than close of traffic?

That's what was originally planned - Track Replacement Work Between Moorgate and Liverpool Street. From 21:15 Friday and all day Saturday and Sunday.

I imagine the works take X number of hours to complete, which takes up the whole weekend plus a few hours. In which case the few extra hours need to be tagged onto the weekend, either at the beginning or at the end. It is preferable to shut down the service early on the Friday rather than start it up late on a Monday.

This looks like it's a near identical repetition of the works to the EB between Moorgate and Liverpool St which required well over a dozen engineering trains for the 500m of track and ballast that was replaced. The logistics of getting this volume of materials and equipment down from depots to the work site invariably means that a couple of hours are lost at each tail of the works so shaving a few hours off the service on Friday night is a small compromise that makes the most of the possession.
Below is a video from Track Partnership on the EB works
Pictures from the works on the WB from the Twitter feeds of the MET/Circle/H'smith & City lines.

How old was the old track? Comfortably over 25 years old, in the early 2000's the bullhead track on the top half of the Circle combined with less than satisfactory drainage was somewhat notorious for its vulnerability to flooding and as such track form could and did deteriorate erratically.

anyone know what service frequencies and patterns were being run on the H and C and the Met line? Seems that uxbridge always the priority in terms of training reaching the city (i.e. beyond Baker street)
