Would a long time lurker, but infrequent poster be welcomed? (Recently discovered my old account had been expired)

Luckily I’ve been given a break from my usual work on Sat 8th so should be able to come. Had to help out my neighbour with his car this morning, will still make it albeit at around 13:45 ish. Approaching from the East, am I right in recalling that the Oak is slightly closer to Chancery Ln?

Approaching from the East, am I right in recalling that the Oak is slightly closer to Chancery Ln? The pub is approximately equidistant between Holborn and Chancery Lane, meaning that when approaching from the East it is slightly quicker to alight at Chancery Lane as you are not doubling back on yourself. Chancery Lane station is also much quieter at the weekend than Holborn.

Well that was a good social meet. We lasted until closing time and then had a tour of the outside of Kingsway Tram Subway by beingcharley . After which I chose the wrong way to get home - N550s should run every half hour. I waited 33 minutes for one which didn't actually stop - probably because they didn't spot me or the other person waiting because of an N26 that had been sat at the stop for 10 minutes already (see below). So I got on the immediately following N15 hoping it would overtake, but we just got later and later so at the last stop before the routes diverged there was a 26 minute wait for the one behind. Alternatively I could walk for about 5 minutes to get an N277 - in 2 or 33 minutes. So I decided to walk a bit further and bypass the Canary Wharf loop and have only a few minutes to wait for whichever bus turned up first, by my estimate that should have been about 10 minutes at most. When I got to that stop CityMapper said 11 minutes. Both an N277 and an N550 turned up after 17. - The N26 arrived at the stop on Aldwych, several people got on. For some reason the payment on one of the passenger's phones didn't work, so his mate tried to pay for him. The driver for some reason was not having this and was not moving the bus. By the time I left at least 6 people offered to pay this stranger's bus fare but the driver was not having it and was not moving the bus, or apparently saying anything to any passengers - even the ones requesting a transfer ticket so they didn't have to pay for a second bus if wasn't moving this one.

Gosh - sounds an excellent day out. I'm afraid I was watching the Gruffalo's Child instead. (at least the theatre was on the site of trolleybus destination).
Was Penderel's oak full of other internet groups? I have been to Christmas drinks there with every internet group I am involved with...

Was Penderel's oak full of other internet groups? I have been to Christmas drinks there with every internet group I am involved with... Oui. enfer c'est les autres groups internetoise… (To avoid clique-iness, one year ('09?) we had drinks there, and someone joined us. Nobody knew his face, but y'know, internet groups... I sat opposite him and was bemused by his attempts to steer conversations round to France. Eventually he stood up and said "You're not the London French Group are you?" It wouldn't be so bad, but someone sidled up to MRFS the next year and asked if we were some other group (forget which one). I think it just has the right combo of size/un-busy-ness/location to suit large collections of people who don't know each other outside a screen).
