Two very different things have happened at Forest Gate which I find very odd.
Platforms 3 and 4 have had their station name signs replaced with white text on a plain blue background (no roundels) with the text in all upper case (pretty sure it's Johnston but strangely hard to tell when in all upper case).
Platform 1 on the other hand have had purple roundels added to match those seen on the unopened core section.
Why the inconsistency? The purple roundels you assume were going to happen anyway but why replace the existing blue TfL Rail signs on platforms 3 and 4? I assume they're to be replaced again soon anyway with purple roundels.

Could it just be that the signs on all bar platform 1 are temporary fixtures as works are yet to be completed? Here’s a comparison of the two fonts side by side.

Absolutely but they already had temporary signs, they had full width stickers over the old signs which was similar but was in sentence case and featured the TfL Rail logo (still on platform 2) so I don't understand the need to replace them for temporary signs again. From that I can confidently say it's definitely the Johnston font, it's what you see on the bottom row.

Aah, but which Johnston? The original Johnston, New Johnston or Johnston 100 (or indeed Johnston Delf Smith)?

Looks like the same thing has happened at Gidea Park, this can be seen at 12 seconds into Geoff Marshall's latest video:

And Brentwood. I believe the target was/is to have all the East stations completed by the end of October. Not sure that target will be met.

But why the mix of roundel and plain blue bar?

But why the mix of roundel and plain blue bar? Two things spring to mind. The lamp standards need to drop for maintenance. Fixing tray roundels to them may not be possible. Otherwise are the blue bars on the fast platforms?

Went to Forest Gate today. The blue bars are on the down electrics (fast) platform. Only early morning and late night TfL Rail trains serve this platform. The roundels are on the up TfL Rail platform. The middle two platforms have only temporary signs. When I managed signing on the Underground I suggested something similar at Farringdon. Roundels on the Thameslink platforms were causing confusion.

The Electrics are the slow lines I think you must mean the Down Main.

Any idea when the new next train displays at Forest Gate will go into use? I'm also curious as to why it seems to be the only station to have then, at least on my end of the line.
