Five weeks ago snoggle made an announcement that he had been diagnosed with terminal cancer, unfortunately tonight the forum has learned that he succumbed to the disease at the weekend.

Over the last 7½ years snoggle has contributed a huge amount to District Dave's forum, in particular through his scrutiny of various TfL committee papers. He will be dearly missed.

Snoggle's posts were always worth reading and it's such a shame when anybody dies at such a relatively young age. RIP Paul.

This forum has always valued quality over quantity when it comes to posts. snoggle is within the thirty most prolific posters to Dave's forum and I struggle to remember a post of his that was anything other than quality. Paul will be greatly missed.

I'm mighty glad two years ago (August 2017) I Pm'ed Paul at a time he was thinking of leaving DD and hoping he'd think about it; doubtless I was one of many that did.

My thoughts are with his family and friends and of course with him. It was rare to have someone who could report as accurately, factually and fully as he did on so many matters here.

Even rarer that he could still elucidate the other point of view and stand his viewpoint and opinion up alongside that without (at least not very often!) attacking that other thought-process.

I have encountered very few who had that facility and I'm sad another such example in Paul has left us.

Perhaps in a little while, a way to permanently mark what Paul gave so freely here will come to mind?

For the moment, all I can say, it was a pleasure and an education to have posted alongside him & if Paul had been a Tube train, he would never have been a turn-back, station-skipper or anything else but the full seven or six coaches, depending on which line he was on today.

Although I never had the privilege of meeting Paul in person, I feel honoured to have learned from such a well respected member of our community who gave us an unparalleled perspective of transport policy in the capital and so much more.

I've been told that funeral arrangements have now been confirmed for 28/01/2020, with a Chapel service at St James Chapel, 70-72 St James’ Street Walthamstow E17 7PE at 10.30am with further committal at Manor Park Crematorium, Sebert Road, Forest Gate E7 0NP at 12noon. I'm planning to go, and it would be good if others who appreciated his contributions to District Dave and elsewhere were also able to come even if they had never met Paul physically.

Paul’s cremated remains will be transported to West Road cemetery, Newcastle Upon Tyne and interned in a family plot.

Only just seen this post. Always liked reading Snoggle's comments, even if I disagreed with him on many occasions. Hope he's enjoying being in the big bus garage in the sky.

I was fortunate enough to be able to attend Snoggle's funeral today, along with elsombernie.

It was a very good service, conducted by a retired minister who was one of Paul's closest friends. It became clear from the various people who spoke at the service and those I was able to talk to afterwards that Paul was a much loved and much appreciated man who never fully understood that this was the case. People Paul worked with at I think stages of his career were present, along with people from his various interest groups, about 20 in all I think, representing a much greater turnout than was initially suspected for someone who was at heart a very private man. A message was also received from the TfL Press Office, a part of the organisation Paul had bumped heads with plenty of times over the years, expressing their condolences - another sign that beneath it all he was a well respected man.

You have not quite heard the last of him though, as London Reconnections will be running his near-complete final work for them soon (although I don't remember if an exact date was given), and steps are being taken to ensure his digital legacy is preserved.

When the forum staff learnt of Paul's death we added him to the in memoriam group, which exists for members who we are aware have passed away. These accounts are not removed during the annual "prune" of inactive accounts and as such all Paul's posts can be readily searched etc.

So good that he got a decent send off. And as rincew1nd alluded to, his wealth of knowledge will live on via his internet contributions on this and other sites.
