Since the passing of Forum Founder District Dave , the Admin Team have had ultimate responsibility for Dave's website and this forum as his legacy. We have recently commenced the process of moving to a new web host; we are expecting this process to be seamless and if all goes to plan then the vast majority of members will notice no changes as all changes are scheduled to take place when forum traffic is low. There may be some display glitches as images are moved between hosts; if we become aware of any other issues we will post updates in this thread. This forum is the legacy of District Dave and we would like to take this opportunity to thank members for their contributions of the last 12 months. We would like to wish all members and readers a very Happy Christmas. |

Correct, the new company hosting our domains and associated stuff is mostly doing the work pro bono and as such work is being undertaken as and when. It's not something I really understand, but I'm told the first steps have already occurred. |

A company now administers our domains for us, a member of their staff (who is a forum member) is doing all the various transfer work involved for free. All the Admin Team (overseen by our Advisors) know who the person is, they wish to remain anonymous. We're happy to explain further if you want, but frankly there's not really anything more to say! </admin comment>Oh, and a Happy Christmas to you too. |

The DD Administration Team have agreed and appointed a trusted external company to handle the hosting going forward. As it's of little or no consequence to the forum operation and membership, and while we thank you for your interest, we see no reason to elaborate further. Lack of transparency would imply there's something dodgy going on My first thought on reading this was that you’d had a bad day and that you didn’t mean what you’d written. With a comment like that you’re likely to wind up the whole staff team, several of whom have put in a lot of time behind the scenes to ensure the change goes seamlessly. There is nothing dodgy going on and if you had given it a second thought at all you’d know the staff would do nothing at all that would harm the forum. Some things you don’t need to know and the finer details of this is one of them, just like us not needing to know your bank balance, your mortgage or your inside leg measurement. Admin comment: Think carefully before you post in future.

As you have now discovered, the forum staff only do what's best the forum and only ever do so after much consideration and consultation with relevant persons (such as myself, being a forum advisor). Since the accusation has been made though, for eveyone's information I have been providing the District Dave domain names and hosting for the static website free of charge for the past 8 years. This was possible as I had a multi website hosting package for my own websites but wasn't using all that I was entitled to use, so the forum & website were able to take advantage of the spare capacity. For some time now we've been considering what may happen should I ever drop dead tomorrow and as a result we have been working towards moving the domain names and static website hosting to a system whereby it can be managed by the forum admin team rather than just one individual. Rather than being sinister, this is actually very sensible future proofing. So now you all know the score, maybe we can go back to enjoying our Christmas days. Merry Christmas one and all. |

I realise I'm digressing, but my point is that there are far greater things in life to worry about than who is hosting an established online forum! |

Just to make a point that may have been missed and is perhaps being misrepresented...
The forum is hosted by Proboards. That is not changing as part of this. The rest of the decisions are of really no consequence to the membership of the forums as it is purely administrative and we should trust the admins to have made the decision with the best thoughts for the forum, particularly with all the advice they have been given.

I'm going to be messaging an admin or moderator over the coming days about this (just to be clear, not because I in any way have a problem with the transfer), but I'm going to let the admins and mods enjoy their remaining hours of Christmas Day and Boxing Day first. |
