Some Piccadilly trains are reversing from platform 1 in passenger service this morning due to severe delays. How often would this happen? I don't recall seeing it before.

As I’m sure you know it’s much more common to see Pic services turned at South Harrow because it doesn’t interfere with the Met but clearly there was ample room on the occasion you saw and the Service Operator acted accordingly.
When the siding at Harrow-on-the-Hill is unavailable for whatever reason, the inter peak stablers often reverse from Platform 1.

There is a booked reverse on the Met around midnight which runs semi-fast to Harrow and empty to Rayners before returning (still empty) to Neasden depot.

Maybe the siding at Harrow is already in use and the next easiest place would be Rayners Lane

As above, rusty rail. There’s nothing else booked to reverse from Rayners back to Harrow, so it’s a way of regularly testing out the route and keeping up driver familiarity.
