Not sure if it's supposed to be a public link so I won't post the URL here, it's got pics of 15 25 27 on LU metals as well as numerous kettles. There is no Members only area on the LURS website, so anything is available for all. In that case then : www.lurs.org.uk/02%20jan%2017%20FREIGHT%20ON%20THE%20UNDERGROUND.pdfnot sure if that URL will survive, the %20 means a space; if the url does not work all I did was input "lurs" "underground" "freight" as search words in google (I already knew it was there, just needed to get the link again).

I doubt johnb2 would have seen a diesel going through Baker street in the early 1950s as I don't think the Western Region had any at that time. The 0-6-0 English electric (class 08) shunters were around at that time, but not in any significant numbers. Au contraire, WR and directly relavent here, Old Oak Common was an early 08 depot D3030 (as 13030) was there from 10/1953 : The history of the 350hp shunter goes back much further than that - originally an inter-war LMS design, but all of the "Big Four" had some. Most of the GWR examples seem to have been based in Cardiff, but at least one (numbered as 15103 by BR) was at Old Oak from 1953 to 1958

The LU train and the main line RHTT train do not lay the same substance, and the latter may not be laying anything, except water jetting. The way to tell (assuming it is still valid; it was valid in 2018) is the main line train reporting number*** - if the letter is a 'J' it is water jetting, if it is an 'S' it is laying a substance called Trackgrip60. The'S' is a legacy from when these did lay Sandite, but the latter not used any more; the name Sandite has remained in common use. I'm not disagreeing or agreeing that one may or may not cancel the other, just commenting they are two different things. And, if anyone has seen them following each other, were both actually working ? *** although I do not know if these letters are universal nor what they actually carry while working over Chiltern + Met.line. The 66-hauled RHTT water jets only. It has not been timetabled behind the RAT for many years; it runs in front of. In the event of disruption or significant adhesion problems the RAT can generally operate additional trips ad hoc. RAT: Rail Adhesion Train RHTT: Railhead Treatment Train All of last year and the year before in leaf fall season, it follows the RAT every day about 10 to 15 minutes behind. I will have to get some photos this year, I can almost guarantee it will be the same haha. Yeah, RHTT is only permitted to water spray on LU metals, whilst the RAT only lays sandite. The stuff LU lays is a more liquid mix, whilst the RHTT has a gel type mix. The gel is better suited to higher speed laying which is why network rail use that.

I was referring to thr previous poster (Roythe bus) who queroed whether thw WR had any diesels at that date. In fact, the GWR's first diesel was in 1933, but by the time of Nationalisation fifteen years later it still only had one shunter (a different one), plus another seven on order - and a fleet of about 40 railcars.

c1992, the joint LT/NSE Crossrail team made a "state visit" to the western end , including Harrow to Aylesbury. Traction was by a 47 (unfortunately I have no record of the number and no camera at the time). There was some joking discussion in the cab along the lines of whether the LU signalling could see the 47 properly (along with the obvious joshing about hurrying up to avoid the A60 close on our heels...)

I've seen photos (in the last day as it happens) of 47808 with inspection saloon DB999506 at Harrow on the Hill. Could this have been the trip?

Would you recall if this was on the Met. mains or locals ? I think there is an axle load or some other restriction, either on 47s, or a wheelbase issue (either bogie length or axle+weight spacing) on CoCo locomotives, somewhere on the Met. local lines; if then this issue is not on the 4 track section south of Moor Park, it is on one or more of the "branches" like Watford or Chesham. Not sure, think this might apply to 66s with thr RHTT train; as Jack posted upthread, the RHTT covers mains and RAT locals; I think the RAT can be diverted to cover the mains, but I'd question RHTT being diverted to cover the locals. Emphasis there on question!

IIRC there is a weak bridge on some but not all of the tracks. My memory says it's somewhere near Wembley but I'm far from certain

Funny enough, the RAT has restrictions in place somewhere(northwood iirc)

Hey all, I was talking to someone about what sort of locos used to run on the underground, and I remember someone saying a Class 14 may have run may years ago. Obviously, there were 66s and 20s fairly recently along with the class 33 on the special to aylesbury. Were any other 'odd locos' ever used on the LU network or shunting locos ever used for anything? (08 at a coal power station maybe?) We used to use mainline freight class 37s when I was at Acton, and we delivered the refurbished A60 stock from Derby to Neasden and return .
