Looking at Carto Metro you are both partly right. The sidings were accessed from chord that linked Platform 7 with the Central line.

Though latterly only from platforms 7 and 9 - the route from Platform 8 was removed when the starter was repositioned for S7 sighting.
Ostensibly the logic behind it was to avoid the additional effort of relocating the shunt signal. In reality it created considerably more work to disable the control of the shunt signal and alterations to the lever frame, buttons and diagram at Earl's Court control room, etc - far in excess of the small amount of material and associated design time needed to recable a new shunt signal. It might be argued, if we were using the terminology of risk assessment, that the cost of removal was grossly disproportionate to the cost of relocation.

I do not doubt the Harsig diagram, but it is dated 1933
My memory is quite clear that the Central (NOT the sidings) was only accessible from Platform 7 of the District in 1972 A different diagram would be applicable then, but I was not around at other times.

Here's the layout as it was from 1952 to 1974: Access to WP14 (and thence to the Central line) was possible from each of the three platform roads, and No. 26 siding.

That was the panel in use till around 2015/2016 when the sidings were removed.

I'm pretty sure a new panel was ordered when the District/Central connection was removed in 2011. That panel was certainly in use in 1999-2000 though.

No that particular one they were all changed in the early 00’s as they were getting hard to read with years and years of nicotine and were very yellow.

Thanks for response to original post. I'm still not clear whether a retained engineers' train berth near Olympia will remain accessible from West Kensington? Also how will six trains be stabled near Chiswick Park, and will this prevent platforms on the Richmond branch being provided, as was once planned?

No platforms on the part of the line going down or up from Gunnersbury, this plan was something that was proposed before Lillie Bridge depot was sold off .

Thanks for the Lillie Bridge diagram. I am referring back to the TfL Finance Committee paper linked in the original post. This talks of “land north of (Lillie Bridge Depot) for engineer’s train/engineering vehicles and road-to-rail vehicle access”. It looks to me that Whiteley’s siding is only accessible by a shunt from the Depot, which is to be sold. Appendix 2 to the paper has a diagram with the new location shown by a spot on the reception road from Olympia station, which appendix 1 shows is outside the sold area, as is the link from West Kensington. However, since a link between these two lines requires a shunt from the Depot to be sold, I suspect that the West Kensington connection will become redundant, and the future single stabling road for engineers' trains will be the current reception road from Olympia.

The plan for Chiswick Park platforms on the Richmond line has been on and off in connection with Piccadilly line trains taking over the Ealing Broadway branch. Did you mean that because it dates back before Lillie Bridge plans, it is in conflict with plans to construct stabling roads on the Richmond branch, both requiring the same area of land? That is what I wondered. The current Google Maps satellite view here has a westbound S7 apparently standing at a proposed new platform, which might be an island or one of an outside pair. However, it seems to show the eastbound line would be hard pressed to fit an S7 between the road bridge and the Piccadilly fly-under. The area between the two lines is presumably that proposed for new stabling roads. Given the limited space for an eastbound platform, I suspect the original plans were for new platforms west of Acton Lane road bridge, and therefore are not in conflict with recent stabling plans. Both schemes may eventually see the light of day!

It is over a year since we learnt of the planned closure of Lillie Bridge Depot from 2024. link page 59. Costs of alternative stabling were to be paid from the proceeds of sale of the Depot, so shouldn't be affected by current financial troubles. There has been no mention of dates for resignalling to the west of the District Line, but SMA14 to Uxbridge is not now due until July 2024, leaving little time for Parsons Green stabling to be expanded and resignalled before Lillie Bridge is planned to close. Any news? Thanks DWS , you beat me asking about Chiswick Park plans!

As the new facing crossover on the eastbound Richmond line is west of the NR/LU boundary, this could result in a change as the points would not be in LUL area of control and maintenance.

The numbering system seems strange,usually on LU double roads are either N-S or E- W.

Parsons Green has one road with two numbers - 25 and 27 - which derives from the days of 26 road, now long removed.
In the Chiswick Park example, it’s more likely down to the design having been done by an external consultancy, who aren’t aware of London Underground’s practices - a bit of a recurring theme at the moment on many projects!
