Three unit trains have been the norm since Covid-19 but some two car units are being operated now. It could have been detached for this reason.
Last week I saw two unit Bank trains and yesterday I caught one from Stratford International to Woolwich Arsenal.

The shorter trains are because there aren't enough units to operate the increased frequencies with all three-car trains. This was the case before covid, but during they changed to fewer longer trains as this requires fewer operators

This was the case before covid, but during they changed to fewer longer trains as this requires fewer operators Vehicle 80 is being stripped of parts before being sent for scrap. Vehicle 39 was sent away for scrap last month having spent around 7 years berthed outside the sheds behind Beckton Control Centre donating parts to other B92 vehicles. Vehicle 88 is also withdrawn from service to be converted into a pilot for the new trains project

I assume the stripping of vehicle 80 was stopped as I travelled on it today!

This FoI request mentions that units 39 and 98 have been stripped of parts to aid in converting unit 88 into a depot shunter for the new fleet as well as providing spares for the rest of the B90/92/2K fleet. No mention is made of unit 80 being similarly stripped so this may have just been confusion with unit 98.
