Bakerloo line extension.

Anyone know when the Bakerloo line extension project will be taking place? I was told around 2024-2025 but I am not sure due to TFL's current finance issue.

Technical work to prepare for the Bakerloo line extension continues rapidly, laying the way for Southwark, Lewisham and TfL to seek government approval for the scheme via the Transport and Works Act in 2025 as planned.

The Bakerloo Line Extension "is currently working towards a single preferred option by late 2025. Work is currently ongoing to update the scheme business case and complete the feasibility design, including packages of work looking at station design and funding options that are funded by the London Boroughs of Lewisham and Southwark. The current EFC is between £5-8bn (2023 prices) and the scheme could feasibly begin construction from 2030 subject to funding."

Two firms will further examine the possibility of an extension to the Bakerloo line.
Transport for London (TfL) is appealing to the government for funding. If the project is approved, TfL believes construction could start in the 2030s with services running by 2040.
It is estimated the extension would cost between £5.2bn and £8.7bn, based on figures from 2021. The line would be extended south from Elephant and Castle to Lewisham via New Cross Gate, with new stations proposed at Old Kent Road and Burgess Park.
Over the next eight months, TfL hopes to encourage the acceleration of its finance request once designs by architects at WW+P are under way, with civil engineering matters managed by AECOM.

The current Underground News notes that an extension beyond Elephant was first mooted back in 1913. Money spent on such proposals over the years probably total what it would have cost to build back then!

In the TfL Annual Report and Statement of Accounts 2023/24 of November 2024 this gets a mention on page 86, at the tail of a story about the DLR Thamesmead extension...

We have continued to develop the cases for West London orbital, which would extend the London Overground from Hounslow towards Hendon and West Hampstead, and the Bakerloo line extension.

That probably puts it in the order of priorities for TfL. Doesn't even say what the extension plan is, unlike the West London Orbital!

Despite the great success of the Elizabeth Line, there is not even a mention of Crossrail 2.
