I was looking through the planned track closures for the next few months, and it appears there are a few closures for the Central, which is surprising as the Central rarely gets any closures.
Sat 25 and 26 March: White City to Leytonstone Sat 29 April - Mon 1 May: Marble Arch to Loughton / Hainault (Friday Night Tube only) and Liverpool Street to Newbury Park / Woodford
Does anyone know the reason for these closures or shall I bump the thread closer to the time?
Thanks!

Concerning the closure this weekend, can trains reverse from platform 1 to Snaresbrook?

I was at Bank today and whilst interchanging from the Northern line to Monument station I overheard some very peeved passengers who wanted to use the Central line lamenting that they had used the TfL app and not seen anything about the closure on it.
As I did not use the app I cannot comment further
Where I came a cropper was that I had it in my mind that the closure would include Gants Hill - so I walked to Ilford. Later in the day I realised that Gants Hill was only closed during Night Tube, but I still decided to return home via Ilford as I was unsure about the ticketing situation - if I caught the rail replacement bus between Stratford and Leytonstone would I be charged a separate fare from Leytonstone to Gants Hill?
Tottenham Court Road (Liz line, eastbound) was very busy this afternoon. But it did not feel too crowded - certainly not 'sardine tin' status.
The same applied to the trains - busy, standing room only but not horribly overcrowded.
I heard travel news state that at least for a while the Jubilee line was partly closed in a way that would have prevented most pasengers travelling towards Stratford from using it as an alternative to the Central line.

Yes that move is possible however this weekend, trains to/from Epping are reversing off platform 2 whilst platform 1 is being used by terminating trains from Newbury Park/Hainault which de-train and shunt onto the EB road before re-entering service on platform 3.

It will be interesting to see if the rail grinding this weekend has combatted the loud noises on several parts of the line, I actually plan to travel tomorrow night so hopefully it isn't horrendous.

If you're looking the status page, closures from the 22 April and onwards haven't been loaded onto it yet.

I wouldn't hold your breath - there's usually a continuous whine that lasts for a week or two where track has been visited by the rail grinder.....

Ah thanks. I,m flying into Gatwick on the 29th April. I need to get to Greenford via the Gatwick Express, Vic and the Central Line from Oxford Circus. It looks like they will reversing east to west at Liv st, so I should be OK.

Just came back from journey, one thing which stood out is Liverpool Street - Bank has become even worse, sounds like a really high pitched scream....

The closures in April and May are for track renewal work between Stratford and Leyton 😊

Mon 1 May: Marble Arch to Loughton / Hainault (Night Tube) Does that mean eastbound trains reverse into the siding at Marble Arch and then T/Op switches end and train moves forward to westbound, and then T/Op switches end again?

The date is incorrect, the Marble Arch-Ealing services will be Friday nights 28 April and 12 May, every 15min: first train T212 01.29½ pfm.2; 01.34½ shunt to siding; 01.45½ shunt to pfm.1; 01.50½ to Ealing. They probably will double end and step back. Duty schedules show no double-ending or stepping back, one driver to do shunt move.

The closures in April and May are for track renewal work between Stratford and Leyton 😊 Bump! If this closure if for track renewal work Stratford - Leyton, why is there a closure beyond Leytonstone? Why isn't a Liverpool Street - Leytonstone closure in place? Of course I don't know everything but am curious as to why... Of course I am not telling LU how to do their jobs at all and don't mean to come off that way but just curious as why there is a Liverpool St - Woodford / Hainault v Newbury Pk closure

Unfortunately the traction current section containing Leyton extends beyond Leytonstone, also the buffer area required extends that through to South Woodford/Newbury Park

so why not battery loco haulage Leytonstome - Newbury Pk / Woodford?
(OK, I can imagine why this would not happen, its just that this closure is a right pain, as taking the bus via 20 mph speed limited roads and a roundabout tour via Snaresbrook will add 30+ minutes each way to my journey from Gants Hill to see the Class 313 farewell tour train tomorrow)

Since there is there Hainault shuttle how are trains operating on this section. Do they go from Woodford - Newbury Park or Woodford - Hainault and Hainault - Newbury Park

I tried journey planners for a Chigwell to Barkingside journey, TfL and Google say to get a train to Hainault and then a bus, implying there are no services operating between Newbury Park and Hainault. Citymapper tells me to take two trains, changing at Hainault (it does know about the engineering works as a journey from Hainault to Gants Hill involves a bus from Newbury Park)

Trains are operating: Woodford via Hainault to Newbury Park every 15min Trains 171-174. Woodford-Epping every 15min

Meanwhile, at Stratford a works train with battery locos has been seen at platform 6.
I saw it this morning but could not spare the time to alight from the westbound Liz line train to film it and catch the next train.
This evening I alighted from an eastbound Liz line train to still image photo it - but it took fright and scurried away to the tunnel!
So I videoed it as it fled.

so why not battery loco haulage Leytonstome - Newbury Pk / Woodford? Battery locos will indeed be operational in that area.

So what work are they doing? Track replacement on platform 6 or track replacement platform 6 - Leyton?
