Does anyone know why, despite integration with TfL, DLR maps don't show direction of travel on vertical line maps (i.e. northbound/southbound/westbound/eastbound), despite the Underground, Overground and Crossrail doing so?

I guess it's because on the original system the main route (Tower Gateway to Island Gardens) was both eastbound and then southbound. It would also be confusing at Beckton where trains towards Bank/Tower Gateway (westbound) depart heading almost due east, while at Gallions Reach both Cyprus and Beckton are west. At Woolwich Arsenal departing trains, which could be regarded as either westbound or northbound, start off heading south east.
I believe that operationally the lines are designated up or down, like mainline practice and don't have a geographical designation.
