What is the problem that is causing southbound Met trains to reverse in platform 1 off peak? I have already missed two by forgetting that I have to run over the footbridge. It has been going on for quite some time now with northbound Chilterns using platform 2 instead of platform 1. Is it a points problem or something else?

Can't seen any specific reason checking the recent logs. Routes are still available into 31Rd and 32Rd sidings, as empty test runs use them off-peak.

I'm a bit out of touch with that part of the railway now but I believe there is a bit of a saga that has been going on fora while with the mirror on P1 for NB Chilterns so they are sent through P2 usually at the moment.

This practice has been taking place typically at all off peak times since March from what I've witnessed. Being unaware of the Platform 1 mirror issue referenced above, I did wonder whether it might be because:- a) It avoids the need to check the train to make sure no customers are overcarried into the sidings as well as mitigating against the risk of such an event actually occurring; or b) It was in response to a request from Drivers because of the long layover time of the off-peak service whereby welfare facilities are more readily available on the platform.
Interestingly, because there is typically just 21/2 minutes scheduled between a SB Met departure and the next NB Met arrival, the NB arrival often has a short stand at the NB home signal waiting for Platform 1 to become unoccupied. This has happened to me time and time again.

Is this the mirror that has a sign stuck in the middle of it reading "Not in use"?

Reminds me of the Princess Alice in Middlesbrough.
There was a round patch in the nicotine above the bar, where a clock had been.
It was marked 'No Tick'.

I noticed today that the sighting mirror on Amersham platform 1 has been replaced, complete with new mounts and new pole in the ground. From what I saw off peak, Chiltern trains were again using P1 northbound normally and Met trains were reversing via the sidings.
It's a recent change as just a few days ago the Chiltern I was on used P1 (which has been a rare event for me) - so I checked the mirror and it was still out of use but station staff were on the platform, presumably to assist the dispatch.
So after 9 months or so, this hopefully means we're now back to not needing footbridge dashes when departing and less two-way congestion over the bridge on arrival.
