Tender evaluation of track geometry measuring equipment is underway with contract award scheduled for mid 2022. The project will mount the equipment on two sets of host wagons, to be hauled by battery locomotives across the network, replacing a single, life-expired track recording vehicle currently in operation, doubling recording capability. Slow progress in procuring this replacement capability meant modification was needed to the existing vehicle following commissioning of new signalling on the sub-surface lines. With this work now complete, a new project will explore allowing the vehicle to operate on the Bakerloo and Jubilee lines without need for special operating measures. ..... (Source TfL Programmes and Investment Committee on 15 December 2021) Has this contract been awarded? Two years on now! Interesting note in the June 2024 investment report (infers replacement for TRV is still at the scoping/specification phase?) Remote track monitoring The project is delivering new equipment which will be installed on two wagons to enable track condition recording. This will increase service reliability and provide critical data to keep the network safe. A feasibility study to determine the next phase of the project was completed in April 2024 and is currently under review.

A feasibility study for use of the Remote Track Monitoring scanner on LU's existing general purpose wagons has been completed. Option assessment is now underway. The project is expected to be complete by November 2027. [Summarised from Appendix 5: Delivery since last Committee submission and plan to next submission]

It is worded as if there is an existing "Remote Track Monitoring Scanner" product in mind. Lets hope is also includes measuring sound/noise (as well as the traditional inertia & dimensions). Also interesting whether the train/facility will include the 3d image capture (as used recently by major project teams & Railtrack). This enables assessments/condition/comparison review of many other assets - I always found the cab view videos useful when investigating signal problems/features (eg showing cabling arrangements)
