I'm seeing reported on Facebook groups that this new entrance is apparently now open. What parts of Stratford and/or Stratford station does this improve access or make access quicker to out of interest?

The entrance is located on the Jubilee line concourse and gives much quicker access to/from the area south/south west of the station which seams to be known as "Carpenters" after "Carpenters Road".

It also provides a quicker route to/from the London Stadium avoiding the Westfield shopping centre. But will the football fans be allowed to use it. OK for forward traffic but could be swamped for return traffic. I think Pudding Mill Lane is closed for return traffic just as, Drayton Park, the station closest to the Emirites is closed. Football fans are already diverted away from Westfield on the return and the longer walk spreads out the fans along Westfield Avenue and Montfichet Road. I haven't been for a couple of years but that was the way the fans were directed. |

I had a look a few days ago. A sign outside says "This entrance is closed during London Stadium events, use the footbridge for alternative entrance"
I wonder if this is a permanent decision or could it be awaiting Police/Local Authority approval of event safety management plans etc., since the approach area does look rather like it was designed to funnel a large group of people towards the entrance. Or perhaps it's just security fencing (but rather better quality than the usual) to protect the remaining LUL & Network Rail private parking/compound areas on both sides of the new entrance.

You don't want to funnel spectators, you want to spread them out; hence the long walks.
Probably the most dangerous time would be an emergency evacuation and "funnelling" people across the stadium island bridges. Last time I attended a match at half time spectators were allowed outside the stadium gates to congregate on the island before going back in. Probably just to spread out the numbers.
It is the biggest football stadium, after Man United and Wembley, in England. West Ham follow Arsenal's policy of tickets sold and not bums on seats as there is always certain happenings, illness, car breakdown etc that stop fans attending.
Years a go there was a Billy Graham, the evangelist, event at Upton Park and American policy of selling more tickets than seats expecting there to be absentees because in American spectators travel much longer distances. In the event all the ticket holder arrived and the groundsman allowed them to stand on the hallowed pitch which was unheard of at the time.
