Two 83 trainsets have been stored at the eastern end of Cockfosters Depot for several years now. In the past day or two the second cars of both sets have been removed (the head units were replaced, so there is a gap in both sets) - does anyone know what has been done with these?

Its about time they got rid of the remaining units at cockfosters and south harrow, they are an eyesore , the unit at cock was inhabited by a tramp last year , he was there for quite a few weeks before being evicted !!!!

I lost saw the 83's at cockfosters about six months ago. I remember they looked rather green! but overall, they look rather horrid.

The remaining cars have been craned out now. Would still be interesting to confirm exactly where they have gone!

The remaining cars have been craned out now. Would still be interesting to confirm exactly where they have gone! Have they? I passed through Cockfosters earlier this afternoon, and I can safely say that the remaining cars were still there, with no sign of any heavy lifting equipment nearby......

Are there any good vantage points, other than a train stopped at the home signals?

Sorry yes it was a bit dark when I arrived so I missed the fact that there are actually still five cars. Its a mobile crane thats been doing the removals, in fact a new road crossing has been put in over the last couple of months next to them don't know if its for the purpose of getting them out or not.

Hi there, yes I'm keen to know where they went, I can confirm that all the remaining 83 cars were removed on the weekend. I'd like to think they were going to be used for something useful but even if not they were a real eyesore and its about time they went.

I can confirm that all the remaining 83 cars were removed on the weekend. I take your post as read, as I'm not likely to be anywhere near Cockfosters in the forseeable future - but the internal traffic circular mentions removal of 83ts next weekend also. Perhaps it's a reserve date in case there were problems last weekend? In both case's though - the traffic circular stated that they were "scrap 83ts".

"Coca cola cans" - Would you drink from the can if you knew that it had sat at Cockfosters for years with undesirables doing unmentionable things in it?

Indeed have read this weeks T/C and timetable movements of some Picc line trains in the area is to be altered this weekend for removal of 83 stock from CFS DT. A sad end to a stock that didn't last long.

I was up there last night and noticed they have all been removed. Just the ones in South Harrow left now.
