Was speaking to a friend of mine who is quite well in the know will all things Piccadilly related. . He was telling me that from January a new timetable will be introduced and it will include "ghost" running to and from T5, with 2/3rds of trains going through to the new station empty and the others having layover time at T4.

Sensible. Starting the shadow running now will bed down the new signalling and ensure that all of the Piccadilly links are road trained in time for the grand opening.

I believe it is earlier than that. I thought the new TT is coming in September because that is when all the I/Os are going to start road training everybody.

According to an internal magazine that has just come through my letterbox (OTM to those in the know), it is expected that the T5 extension will be handed over to LUL sometime in July.........then opened to customers next March. On that basis, a september timetable change would seem sensible.

How will this new timetable affect Uxbridge branch services I don't think it will. I would imagine there will still be the 10 min (if you're lucky!) alternate Uxbridge\Rayners train. The new TT is mainly for T5. DOC

WTT43 will be implemented Sunday Jan 13th. This is to allow training of train ops. Instructor Ops will be trained between May and January to enable trial ops to take place, testing of signals, systems, etc. Shadow running will be up to circa March 27th when T5 will be open to airside traffic, the first plane to arrive being from Hong Kong (allegedly). Ten minute service to T5 while the remainder go around the loop. T4 will be a holding/PNR point for loop trains while T5 Eastbound platform will have similar facilities.

6tph? That's all?
Given the size of T5 and the number of services it is expected to support I am amazed that 6tph will be enough - I suspect that a lot of people will be hoofing it to the HEx island when they see the crowds building up on the T5 departure platform.

We were originally told that there would be a train to T4 every 15 mins, with the majority of trains running thru to T5. I agree with TOK. I also can't see that a direct train every 10mins to H123 will be anywhere near enough. Someone needs to check their figures methinks, unless of course this is just the shadow running TT. It would make sense if it is because there are not enough IO's to cope with the majority of trains running thru to T5.

I agree about the timings...not enough! I wonder if in practice Heathrow Express is going to be the more attractive choice?

Off-peak, will there continue to be Northfields reversers with all the extra Heathrow trains around?

I was expecting the Uxbridge services to be cut back to Rayners Lane or something... how will they run the extra T5 services with the current rolling stock otherwise?

I suspect that they will simply extend the existing services, and adopt a wait & see attitude with regards to train loadings in and out of T5. It should be noted that when T5 opens, T2 will be closed and demolished - Heathrow Central will therefore have a far lower number of people using the station than it does now.
If & when the full public timetable starts I fully expect to see T4's service lowered to 4tph - this will not be much of a hardship though, as the low service will allow trains to 'wait time' at T4 and fill up more evenly than they do at the moment. Still, I think the people living on the Uxbridge branch will be getting increasingly frustrated with their services as T5 rises in importance.
