I heard that earlier the Picc was suspended Hyde Park to Hammersmith WB because of a defective train (stuck in tunnel from what I gather). Does anyone know what was wrong with the train? Also I think they should have been reversing more trains east to west at Hammersmith, and it also would have helped if the District controllers would have told the drivers over the radio so we could have advised passengers not to change for picc at ECT and South Ken

The District Controller made an announcement informing drivers of the problem and advised drivers to tell passengers not to interchange at Earls Court with the Pic as I was finishing my duty at 1330

The only time that it is worth sending something through to Hammersmith is when you have a few trains waiting to reverse at Acton, detrain to sidings.

By this time he told me it had been going on for at least 10 mins as well, plenty of time for the Dis LC to put an announcement out . Anyway the SA very quickly got on the radio requesting the SS call the Dis LC to ask him to advise drivers to tell punters

From what I gleaned over the radio, the driver first reported what sounded like a loss of lighting, with quite a few indications on the CDU, which prompted the controller to say "all of those?" or words to that effect. He/she was told to tip out (at Knightsbridge) but when the train passed through the Brompton curves it stalled (presumably on half motors which would explain loss of lighting). The L/C was telling everyone else that it was in slow speed when it stalled. I reckon a fuse blew or some MA's were lost. Anyway, the train behind had to move up to push it out, but I don't know the outcome because I finished just as that procedure started. I will see what I can find out tomorrow.

It continued as a 12 car to the next station, where the Train Tech met and rectified it. It was then un-coupled and run to depot for fleet managers investigation. Don't know what the actual fault was though.

I guess the couplers match. Don't the double ended 73s have wedgelock couplers at both ends-so would they couple to a single ender?

So, from what I have heard, the train was struck dumb by load shedding, which would explain the L/C's comment. The driver must have been telling him that he had lost all of his MA's. I'm surprised that they didn't just keep the train at Knightsbridge, considering the Brompton Curves reputation. It would have saved a lot of trouble if they had waited for a train tech.
