Thanks to either a faulty track at Lambeth North or defective points at Buffalo & Rook, I got to bash the scissors crossover at the former station today (whoopee).
Anyway, I wanted to ask what the speed limit over the facing crossover at Lambeth North is - a dirty speed limit sign beneath the n/b wrong road starter stated a speed limit of 5 for the trailing crossover.
Also, what is the distance between the Waterloo s/b starter and the next signal? I had the opportunity today to see the back of a 1972TS in the pipe with another 1972TS in the platform!
Finally, does the n/b starter have a SHUNT AHEAD lightbox? The s/b starter has a REVERSE lightbox (see relevant thread).

Sounds a bit low - I'd have thought 15 at least. Not that far, probably a couple of trains length. I'll check tomorrow. Not that I remember.

Aye, it's 15mph over that.
BR1 is the next signal after Waterloo. At a guess, it's gotta be around 2 1/5 trains lengths from the platform? Ish. It's highly unlikely the train was at this signal. This is seldom at danger unless the points are yet to normalise after sending a train up to London road. Even then, it clears almost as soon as seeing it. Chances are the train ahead was either crawling up to BR2, or alternatively had stopped for reasons known only to himself. Unofficial PNR perhaps.
Whilst fully berthed in WTL s/b, I've only seen the train ahead once in five years... took me aback!!
I think Lambeth n/b platform may have a 'Depot' visual.... Have to have a look tomorrow.

There were a lot of trains tipping out on Waterloo s/b and proceeding direct to depot, so it may be that the train in front was stopped at BR1. I suppose your comment about the crossover not yet normalised is probably quite accurate, as trains had been reversing at Lambeth for quite a while when I appeared on the scene.
I do agree though about how surprising it is to see a train in the pipe while another is in the platform!
