It must have been similar to leaving your car at a friend's house! It's a shame Croxley depot got flattened-not that much use has been made of the land now!

WTT 56 16/10/67: (not got the '66 one when the 4 each peak came in)
trains starting from Croxley Green
51 0713 52 0732 53 0743 54 0803
trains stabling at Croxley Green
95 1844 52 1850 72 1904 88 1909
51 arrive Watford 0723, off 0734 52 arrive Watford 0742, off 0751 53 arrive Watford 0753, off 0805 54 arrive Watford 0813, off 0823
95 arrive Watford 1828, off 1834 52 arrive Watford 1835, off 1840 72 arrive Watford 1843, off 1852 88 arrive Watford 1851, off 1859
If you want anymore information I can lay my hands on the following WTTs: 57 (14/10/68), 58 (27/1/70), 59 (3/5/71), 62 (10/74), 66 (1/75), 67 (5/75), 68 (12/75), 69 (3/76), 70 (8/76), 75 (4/77), 77 (5/78), 1 (5/79), 2 (11/81), 3 (12/82)
EDIT: WTT 54 11/10/65 has also got just the 4 Watfords in, but I didn't look in it at first, because of the comment in the Mike Horne book on the B'loo: 'The May 1966 timetable saw the through Watford trains reduced to four one-way in each peak' Certainly when the services were reduced there was no weekend stabling and starting at Croxley Green, this is the case in WTT 54, so from the evidence the services were reduced down to 4 in 10/65 not 5/66. It's all a far cry from WTT 45 (Sept '60) with 11 trains and 2 units starting from Croxley, 11 trains uncoupling, 7 coupling at Watford on weekdays, 8 (un)coupling on Saturdays, and 3 uncoupling with 5 coupling on Sundays. It was almost the same 16 years earlier when uncoupling was reintroduced with WTT 32 5/6/50!

Thanks - it must have been quite a trek for the drivers to get to Croxley Green depot to pick up those trains - I assume the drivers who did these runs were based at Queens Park? The official walking time for Croxley Green was 33 minutes. Walking time from where - Watford Junction?

I thought there was a small crew depot up that end. Might be wrong though.

lostlines.fotopic.net/p24722137.htmlshows three 4th rail-equipped depot tracks though I thought that there were four at one time? It has been ages since I saw that site and those photos! A film was made and shown at LURS years ago of 1972 Stock running ECS ex-Watford to the Depot at High Street Junction...I have seen queries as to whether the Stock did run to Watford, and there was the proof!

Do you mean this DVD Oracle? www.transportdiversions.com/publicationshow.asp?pubid=6235I've got it and the filming is fantastic. Lots of 38s, some 59s, 72s and 501s. From memory, you definitely see the 38s in and out of the depot at Croxley and 38s and 72s at Watford Junction. I can't remember if it shows 59s at Watford though but I'll check when I get a minute! Could be! The same guy filmed lots of other interesting stuff including the usual Aldwych '62 Stock on the Picc main at Turnham Green with a '59 Stock unit.

Richard 59 stock never went to Watford - the Watford service ended in September 1982, while the 59's didn't arrive on the Bakerloo still the end of 1982, entering service in early 1983. Someoone posted on this thread that a 59 was sent to Watford some years after the service ceased, although nobody seems to know much about this.

There was I seem to recall only a short time between the 1972 Stock arriving and the Watford service finishing. An analogy is the 1938 Stock running to Hatton Cross before the stock was transferred from the Picc or withdrawn: I never saw a train run there but understood that this was the case.

The 72's arrived on the Bakerloo in 1977, and were all gone (to the Jubilee) in 1979, so there was a good two years or so for the 72's to make it to Watford. With regard to Hatton Cross and the 38 stock, the window was much tighter - only a few months. The 59 stock stayed long enough on the Picc to visit Heathrow, but arrived just too late to visit Watford on the Bakerloo.

On the final day of operation to Watford (24th September 1982), was there only a service in the morning, or did the trains return to Watford in the evening? I am asuming that they did not, since stabling at Croxley depot would have also ceased on that day.
Was there any kind of ceremony?
