Memories again Mr Q8, and thanks. Potential-group fuses?! But this is interesting. The contrast between this relatively complex diagram and the 'Motorman Percy' cartoon as a means of showing drivers (back in the old days) how to solve 'no-movement' problems in their daily working lives. Discuss

I hated that Top Rate Percy cartoon, he seemed like a right jobsworth Well he got me out of the sh*t when I was stuck at Knightsbridge on the EB with a 59-stock that wouldn't do the bizz, so I'm not complaining! ;D

If there was one damn thing that used to get my goat with a '38 stock it was the bloody MG light in the cab.

(Related to 38ts but slightly different to the current gist) Does anyone have figures for 1938 stock seating/standing capacity? Many thanks

I can't find any quoted figures, but working from drawings and photos there are 42 seats in a DM and I think only 40 in a trailer. Perhaps someone else has more definitive information?

Many thanks It is the same as for 59/62ts since the layout inside was virtually identical DM: seats 42 NDM,T: seats 40 Total seats (7 car): 288 Standing:1010 Total capacity:1398 (of course if you replace a DM with an UNDM.........)

As you are talking about 38 stock, I wonder are the 38 locos still used as de-icing units ? these were very interesting to drive if a bit scary with westinghouse brakes only and the 630 volt contactors in the open behind you, also had to be careful not to get gapped, anyone else driven thse monsters?

Are you talking about the old sleet loco's 62? Wacky old birds thay were, but fun. Couldnt go past series with the handle owing to the stop. I was told that before they put the stop on the top one of them apparently made nearly 75 mph on the northbound fast Harrow -Moor park

Yes Q8 sorry sleet loco not de-icers, they were indeed extremely fast and extremely heavy, only trouble was the westinghouse brakes in the snow,no saviour with EP,hence the large dents in Hainult depot shutters, oops!

I had the privilege of being one of the last 4 drivers on the Central line to be refreshed on the sleet locos. I did the training on a (Buckshee!) Sunday at Hainault in April 1984 or 85. It was the last Sunday of the 'winter' season, and the following month the locos were scrapped. (And they'd only just repainted them as well )
