Please move this if it's in the wrong place - it seemed a toss up between here and the Jubilee board... On my way to Marlborough Road (Disused) on Thursday night I asked the CSA on the gateline at St. John's Wood whether it was a left or right turn out of the door, and he not only knew but gave directions and then proceeded to draw on the local transport leaflet's map precisely where. To you, sir, my reiterated thanks.

Log onto TfL website and do a commendation for him. They're very good on that and it'll go straight on his record.

Wouldn't he get a rollocking - after all anyone with a mild interest in the system is a suspicious character!

There are loads of Train enthusiasts on the tube, very few admit to it though! Not diehard anoraks maybe, but a love of the system and its history etc.

Many are members of staff who you would never imagine having any interest in it at all............

One man recently asked me if I knew how Arnos Grove got its name and seemed a bit deflated when I did.

Station site board for Arnos Grove Underground station, Piccadilly line, Southgate extension. Sign reads: Suggested names - Arnos Grove - Arnos Park - Southgate. Write and tell us what name you suggestsays it all really! Though whether the public's views were actually taken into account is debatable.

Yes, I keep my anorak-ness quiet due to the above, but in various conversations with some of my gateline colleagues, I've detected some leaks of hidden geekiness.

It was named for the park behind, which in turn is believed to have been named for a family that once held the land in the area, which was something like "Arnoldes". I think that this hasn't been 100% proven, but it is the dominant theory.
