tw@t of myself, is there anyone else out there interested/knowlegable about the Glasgow Underground? I've just acquired [1] a complete signalling diagram of both circles and Broomloan. ;D Sadly, it's not to scale, but there are a few <hem hem> interesting things, that might be of interest to the timetabling/signalling design types. [1] yeah, just arrived in the post on my doormat. I was utterly surprised Nice to see as I used to commute on the SubwaY.

Yep, this is another one of my interests. I am of to Glasgow tomrrow for a few days and one of them will be a catch up (since last year) on what has happened on the Subway - refurbs, livery alterations, timetables, etc.
My first visit was in 1965 (in the good old days - but then I would say that!) and made many visits subsequently, especially in the 1974-77 period just prior to modernisation. For those of you too young to remember or weren't even born then, the 'old' Subway was a truly memorable experience.
I could go on and on, but perhaps better not .......

I first went on the Glasgow Subway when I was 14. Although this was 10 years after the end of the 1896 stock, the system still had an appeal of its own. The first thing I noticed when I joined the system at Partick, was that my LU-style yellow ticket was dated with that day's date, but the year was 1972! I found the staff very friendly. I had contemplated having a day in Glasgow to photograph the subway, but it would have meant going each way on the overnight Megabus, which only picks up in London, not good when you have to travel from Northampton and pay £££ for the London Midland train service. If anyone else is really interested in doing this, drop me a pm.

I'm interested, have a bit of knowledge, used it regularly for years and have a copy of Circles Under The Clyde!
For reganorak: There are a handful of refurbished trailers in use now, all cars are in the new livery (apart from the Commonwealth Games special), station ticket offices are getting a light refresh and new signage is going up, ticket offices are getting credit/debit card machines, the next train indicators are now reliable, Partick Interchange is still(!) under construction, glass screens will be going up on the unused face of Ibrox and Hillhead platforms shortly - but on the debit side the Wee Castle at St Enoch is no longer a travel centre and closed awaiting a new tenant.

Thanks for this - I agree with your comments.
On 14/7/08 the glass screens had just been started at one end of Hillhead with four panels actually in place.
At present, refurbished trailers are 201 (returned on 16/7/08 in SPTE livery), 203, 204, 205 and 208.
202 went for refurb also 16/7/08 leaving 206 and 207 unrefurbished, both with the darker brown seating moquette.
Apart from 201, all other trailers are in AOA livery - 205/6/7/8 blue with orange doors in "Back the Bid" livery, 203 red with white doors for Radio Clyde, and 204 blue with red doors promoting SPTE. 202 sported the Back the Bid livery up to the time it went for refurb.
All motor cars are now in a standard livery, except for 103 and 119, which still have the bottom section of the passenger doors in maroon instead of cream, just a minor difference.
Apologies if this info isn't where it should be on the forum!
