I noticed today new signs above the subways at Barking - despite it being a c2c managed station, they appear to be T fL branded, showing Overground Underground Platforms ... and ... to ... Does that mean the MAYOR OF LOND ON is taking over all London stations?

Oh I agree - and a display showing which train is next (District / H&C) would be very nice too!

Wow.. I am very surprised that c2c would give away Barking! LUL have been trying to get EAB for a while now, and no way will FGW give it away.. makes them too much money !

But LU never had EAB, rather in 1965 LT closed its own entrance and booking office and diverted all passengers via the BR(WR) station. Maybe they should reopen the old c.1914 Harry Ford DR surface building, which still stands, and put the former stairs back onto platforms 8 & 9? (And renumber these perhaps 1 & 2?)

If they renumber platforms 8 & 9 1 & 2 it will no doubt cause confusion with the original platforms 1 & 2. I heard a rumour that there is a possibility of opening the original LT entrance temporarily, so they can demolish the current ticket hall and rebuild it as a crossrail station.. of course not for a few years yet!

I never seriously thought they'd recreate a separate DR station. Perhaps if BR still existed there would be more chance of TFL/LU taking over stations like Ealing Broadway, and more likely Barking and Upminster, but with the privatised railway being primarily profit-driven I can't see the TOCs being keen to give up on ticket sales.

I would do anything to make this happen!!! FGW can't even sell me my damn Monthly Oyster Card through the rubbish ticket machines. Perhaps a takeover would allow LU to increase the number of entrances/exits so that we (the commuters can get in/out. Odd that LU have a more frequent service, yet they don't sell the tickets or run the station. Seem to be hidden away from the Idiots at the gateline more interested in smoking, picking on "the small people" and running after you, frogmarching you to the oyster machine (LU ones before they were replaced in the refurb...) so you can prove the reason the gate shut on you was that the person in front was a Cretin who cannot use an Oyster card.

Perhaps a takeover would allow LU to increase the number of entrances/exits so that we (the commuters can get in/out. It's going to be completely rebuilt for Crossrail (with a bigger, better entrance), and presumably will come under the control of TfL (or the LOROL-style operator that'll actually run it), so you can expect the same kind of improvements TfL have implemented at London Overground. I wouldn't expect any changes in operator between now and 2013 when First Great Western's franchise comes to an end.

The new signs at Barking only refer to TFL services and are thus not part of a station-wide re-signing project. So they direct you from NR-served platforms to LU or LO, but not vice-versa. Although I only glimpsed them when passing through on c2c, they only appear to be sited above the slopes to the subway and not by the main stairs. It all looks rather uncordinated as whilst the new TFL signs are an example in clarity, the c2c ones, erm, aren't. Incidentally, presumably the slopes were provided for parcels trolleys and allowed all platforms to be linked with the goods lift on platform 1? There was a parcels office on the R/H side of the ticket hall as built, although it had gone by the time I had my first conscious memories of the place (mid-70s).

Also, the name signs on the LU platform faces (1A,2,3 & 6) are still the old NSE variety with the red/blue squares over-painted grey, whereas the rest of the station has new c2c branded pink/blue signs.
Are they perhaps highlighting that NR will not provide the signs for the LU platforms?
Also, when c2c is re-branded "National Express-. . . . . " will the signs and logos be changed from the unique pink?

When I wen't to Barking last night to pick up I asked a different DMT about the station and was told London Overground are taking it over. I'll see if I can find anything on the intranet about it when I'm night spare at the end of the week.

London Overground would seem to be an odd manager for Barking, as they're a much more minor operator there than c2c and LU.

That's got to be wrong... surely it should be: Underground... Overground... Wombling free.... ;D ;D ;D Okay maybe in Wimbledon, when Overground reaches there.... Seems a strange choice for a managing company.... or have C2C or National Express just been bought out!!! Boy... BJ & TfL must have deep pockets!!!

c2c is owned by National Express - I believe the c2c brand will go at some point in the future as National Express are adopting corporate colours throughout their train operations now. In the case of 'One', I think it's a good thing, but I feel they'd be shooting themselves in the foot to do away with the c2c brand - all memories of LTS and the 'misery line' tag have long gone....
As to Barking station, it is their flagship station (don't forget, Fenchurch Street is owned by Network Rail though admittedly staffed by c2c) - I'd be astounded if c2c gave it up.

As to Barking station, it is their flagship station . . . . hehe, if Barking is indeed c2c's 'flagship' and they did operate a shipping line, i'd hate to go steerage class in their row-boat !!
