As well as the new trains, start looking out for the new TVMs (ticket vending machines) the first of which are due for installation this week, with a roll out across the system over the next few months. The new machines are much more user friendly and all have Oyster facilities.

Is there an easy way to distinguish them from the existing ticket machines at a glance?

They are quite different, touch screen, Oyster reader, PIN keypad. The mock-up was a beigey colour, not sure if the final product will be the same colour. AFAIK the first will be installed at London City Airport. I could have sworn I had a picture but it seems to have vanished. Rumour has it that the old ones will be on the way to Croydon for spares on the Tram system.

Is there an easy way to distinguish them from the existing ticket machines at a glance? Lack of scratches and graffiti?

Quick update. The first machine has been installed at LCA and is grey.
