The destination blinds on the Hammersmith & City say 'Hammersmith via Shepherds Bush'. As the H&C station has been renamed to Shepherds Bush Market, this could be confusing to tourists, and people who don't normally use the line. I don't think new blinds will be made for the C stock though, because the S stock should start running on the H&C in a few years time.

I think I came across "Hammersmith via Ladbroke Grove" recently, but whether it was a platform announcement or on a train blind or a platform indicator I dunno. Course, I could have dreamt it...

Was sure they would get Wood Lane in somewhere, surprised tfl didn't go the whole hog and put 'for Westfield London' in there!

If you stand at Mile End facing west you can catch either a District Line or Central Line train all the way to Ealing Broadway. Neither of them says "via" but you'd be pretty hacked off if you got on the District one taking ages going all round the houses. Surely that's a case for "via" more than the H&C? On the other hand, I just look at the map and work it out for myself.

I'd prefer going all round the houses to going through the middle of London on a 92TS. The District (usually) seems less busy than the Central, and the seats on D stock are better.

...which isn't especially helpful, given that there are no physical (or logical) barriers to running a service Whitechapel -> Liverpool Street -> Edgware Road -> Paddington Praed Street -> HSK -> Earl's Court -> Hammersmith.

When an inner rail or Hammersmith train gets reformed into a District before getting to Egdware Rd WB, ie- at Kings Cross or somewhere and you put the blind up as a Wimbledon before getting to Edgware Road it really freaks people out. You'll get loads of questions from passengers and SA's alike who are convinced that such a thing is impossible.
Of course if you were a Hammersmith and get reformed, if you don't put it up as a Wimbledon you alienate all the people for stations to High Street on the Circle, and if you leave it as a Hammersmith you'll be giving false info and get grief off all the Hammersmith passengers at ERD. If you put it up as an Edgware Road you stitch up everyone!
I don't think there is a perfect solution, apart from writing the line name on the front - which i think they plan to do with S-Stock. But even then with weird reforms and trains coming out of Barking/Hammer as Circles and Aldgates it'll still throw people.
It's a bizarre thing on LUL but some people put too much faith in signage and others seem to totally ignore it. (someone standing by a huge "way out" sign asking you where the way out is). It is one of the better signed metro systems i've ever used though compared to others around the world.

No easy answer to this one, although I do tend to "guide" drivers of soon to be ex-Hammersmith trains to show Circle and ex-Circles to keep it as that until Edgware Road. We do try where possible to make the reform decision as early as possible so that people are not given a last-minute change - but as you know only too well, as far as our line goes, planning is easier said than done. The SCC can also display District line destinations from Kings Cross onwards, which can really introduce confusion ;D

Certainly it is best to show inner rail trains (from say Kings X) as [CIRCLE LINE] as far as Edgware Road, where a change in destination and further journey options are available.

That would be interesting to see Ealing Bdy on the DMI at Kings X In "theory" the software exists within the SCC to show many numerous TDs at any location under its control. Unfortunately, there is not the same technology on site, so although a TD is programmed in, it may not show correctly. Years ago I tried a few experiments, and it was found that the "furthest west" TDs that could be shown were something like: Liverpool Street - Farringdon: Parsons Green Kings Cross - Baker Street: Putney Bridge (although Wimbledon did show for a couple of the tests. I "think" the direct Moorgate-District services did come back for a short time in the early 1980s, though cannot be sure. I do know that for a few weekends in the mid-1990s, during engineering work, a 10-minute service operated between Moorgate and Wimbledon. Cannot actually remember what work was taking place to call for this (think it was Circle Line related).

Wimbledon/Putney Liverpool Street/Moorgate/Aldgate services: Very true - I only tend to acquire a Set Working Book if I can't find an appropriate WTT of the period; fortunately I'm very lucky in having a nearly complete run of District WTTs from about 1955 - must admit that I've not gone searching for these services (yet! ;D), but I do know that the TD codes (bringing the subject back on topic) are still on the system for these services - though I'm not sure off the top of my head that the necessary code changes are still there at the transfer between 'District' and 'Met' territory. I suppose that the codes would change at High Street.
