As Custom House station must be one of the busiest on the DLR network will the station be getting more trains and better all round service when all the upgrades have taken place? As the station is no longer served by the North London Line (a shameful forest of weeds have taken over their old platforms and track) would it not make sense for the new Stratford service to call at this station as well as an enhanced service to the city. When you enter Custom House station there is a large bill board put up from the London Mayor stating that the North London Line has been withdrawn so improvements to public transport in the area can begin. This bill board was put up a couple of years ago before the North London Line was axed. For the life of me i have yet to see any improvements to public transport at this station, the only thing i have seen is a train service axed and a forest of weeds grow!

There's not even a through DLR service at the moment, just a shuttle to Canning Town.
That poster says there will be a service from "Woolwich Arsenal to Stratford International" in 2010 (but not of course from the Beckton branch!).

The plan is in 2010 for a Beckton to Stratford International tho. The service from there will spilt at Canning Town 50/50 to each branch.

I hope the Stratford (Regional) branch has a wider range of options too then instead of being the only route with no service to London.

It's really only Pudding Mill Lane, Devons Road, Langdon Park and All Saints that have the one route. Stratford to Bank is quicker by the Central Line, Bow Road to Tower Hill/Monument is quicker than Bow Church to Tower Gateway/Bank and both provide direct services to destinations further west than the DLR termini.

Custom House will also be getting its Crossrail station in the future which will provide very fast links to the City, West End and Heathrow. The old North London Line infrastructure will be used for that I believe.

No, the announced plan is 5 tph for each of Beckton-Tower Gateway, Beckton-Stratford International, Woolwich-Bank and Woolwich-Stratford International. The Royal Victoria third platform adds a bit of flexibility and makes it easier to get trains across the junction, at very little extra cost.
(though I do think there's an over-provision of trains to the wastelands along the Beckton branch in this plan, so I wouldn't be surprised if they start curtailing the Stratford-Beckton trains at Royal Victoria off-peak)

Do you mean 5 tph, because that is less than the Bank - KGV is, and Tower Gateway - Beckton was? Shouldn't it be 6 tph? (though I do think there's an over-provision of trains to the wastelands along the Beckton branch in this plan, so I wouldn't be surprised if they start curtailing the Stratford-Beckton trains at Royal Victoria off-peak) But the Beckton line isn't going to have 3-car trains for a while.

The Beckton branch already has 12 trains per hour off peak and has done so for two or three years now (6 to Tower, 6 to Canning Town). The Stratford International service will simply be an extension of the Canning Town service. But the Beckton line isn't going to have 3-car trains for a while. Platform extensions on the Beckton branch will be completed in early 2011 with SDO operation when a 3 car train (presumably depot services) serves stations to Gallions Reach in the interim.

Interesting. The two Stratford International services are specifically stated as 5 tph in various documents.

I had a read of a newsletter yesterday about the 3 car upgrade. There is no funding Royal Vi - Beckton for 3 cars so I guess if the stratford line is 3 cars it will stop as R Victoria as I thought it was going to.

No its just going to have a two car service to Beckton. I didnt mean that services to Beckton were going to be 3 car. Simply 50% of services are planned for either branch.
I will have a word with my contacts in the DLR and see if I can clear this up!

The Stratford International - Beckton service will be 2-car, and the Stratford International - Woolwich Arsenal service will be 3-car.

That is an old newsletter, DLR has now been allocated funding. www.lda.gov.uk/server.php?show=ConWebDoc.29283 cars will still serve the Beckton branch. For Custom House, for example, DLR's website says "Selective door opening will be introduced where the first and last doors of a three-car train will remain closed when a train is at the station."
