We're now a year on from the LU takeover north of Queens Park. good news, but is anything happening now? After the initial deep-clean and repainting frankly nothing seems to be going on and stations appear increasingly shabby.

I'm not sure the stations are in much better nick than before to be honest, but I think we can expect these things to take a bit longer than a year. That said, the Silverlink signage on most of the platforms has simply been covered up instead of removed altogether...simple task you would have thought.

I think the stations north of Harrow and Wealdstone look worse than those south of that point.

When LT operated services as far as Watford Junction, did the stations north of Harrow & Wealdstone ever have LT roundels?

I thought that it must be a road sign. If it's betwwn the station and the Harlequin, then it is probably where the 'Ring Road' crosses the High Street.

From the esrly 1970's all stations between Queens Park and Watford Junction had both LT roundel and BR double arrows at the front of the station. Usually mounted on a pole and quiet often stuck on the bridge parapet as most stations have a road over bridge.

Usually mounted on a pole and quiet often stuck on the bridge parapet as most stations have a road over bridge. There were joint roundel/BR totem exterior signs installed from the late-40s/50s, see the LT Museum photo on-line library. |

I have a picture in a book showing such a set-up, along with a London Country "flying polo" sign, at Watford Junction. |

Apropos of which there was (late eighties - don't know if it's still there) a sign at Mill Hill (Broadway) Station (under the motorway), with LT Underground (specifically) roundel, BR double arrow and NSE flash (all mounted on a red pole). Now a bus (or generic) roundel I could understand (for the the bus station), but can anybody say why an Underground roundel?

It may have been a relic of the Northern Line scheme that was to use the old GNR line from Mill Hill East to Edgware GN. Mill Hill 'The Hale' was an intermediate station sited near Mill Hill Broadway. When the idea was dropped after WW2 it was said that LU tickets could be bought from Mill Hill Broadway.
