what was the system in the 30's/40's that had proper little fireclay bricks which you laid with a mixture of wallpaper glue using a miniature trowel? I can't remember the name but iv'e got one of the trowels.

I seem to remember a similar earthing problem when the class 501 north london units were converted to third rail. apparently they simply connected the -ve shoe lead to bogie frame and withintwo or three weeks all the motor bogie wheel roller bearings were terminally pitted by arcing and they had to revert to four-rail working until axle brushes were fitted. Apparently this problem was not so severe on older stock with plain bearings although not an ideal situation

got my ticket for 1930 today. Re sky news report, has anyone noticed thecompletely inaccurate details, dates etc. I do'nt know where they get these so called reporters from,ther'e worse than daily mail and similar! Incidentally is it me or is this site extremley slow yesterday and today ? All my other contacts seem OK. /

if the bogie has an offset (fore or aft) pivot point, the shoe is mounted at this point to ensure proper tracking on curves
