as the high-speed line to st pancras is of continental loading gauge, why could not t.g.v units or any other suitable types have not replaced the out of action eurostars? I seem to remember that even a class 319 went through the tunnel at one point!

I think you answered your own question (why queensway Xover in own tunnel) as if lines are one above the other you would need a vertical crossover!

I dont know where the T sign is leaving edgware road EB centre platform going west on wimbleware trains, but several occaisions while sitting in the rear car,the traversal of the scissors crossover was uncomfortable to say the least!

re st mary,s curve, as I understand it from previous posts, the blocking-off is only wooden hoarding which was previously in place during the 1990,s refurbishment of E L R.

re places to put trains out of the way on district line, how about using st mary,s curve as two sidings probably with stop blocks just before the sharp bottopm curve? could also incorporate non-electric access to elr if necessary.

yes the 501 farewell tour did reach horsham . Ido have a photo somewhere but can't find it at present. participants were given a 501 buttonhole badge which I also can't find. Will look later. Incidently the unit used had to have about two inches sawn off every footboard which was apparently done very hurriedly with a chainsaw before it left the depot!

Re; East Putney, I attended one of Wimbledon depot's open days (cant rememberthe date) and had left my car in Keswick road east Putney (home of late lamented John Smith of Lens of Sutton) and traveled to Wim by rail. After the event they ran a train from there to Clapham junc: and back via East putney. On the return I did not really want to goall the way to Wim:again, so I asked the driver if he would let me off at East Putney to which he agreed and stopped at the overgrown and disused NR southbound platform from which I scurried down the remains of the stairs and through the part of the subway used for storing bikes etc: I wonder if any others have had occaision to use this platform ?

In 1953 just after the rear- end collision in the eastbound tunnel between stratford and leyton,I was returning to my national service base at R A F Chigwell (station -Buckhurst Hill) on the 3.15 am approx, from Stratford Lea valley platform to Epping . As we approched Leyton junc: we were halted alongside the ramp cutting up from the tube tunnels and looking over from my train , saw that a J69 was well down the eastbound ramp dragging out damaged tube stock from the tunnel mouth attatched to it by a chain.(I think it was part of the rear collision train). This procession proceeded into Leyton EB platform, and then was pushed back towards us on the non electric line we were standing on and then into the small siding fromthere which adjoined Temple mills yard. Unfortunateley I didn't have a camera at the time, I wonder if anyone else witnessed or knows anything about this occurence ? It took about 3/4 of an hour to complete, delaying the 3.15 accordingly.
