The doors still suck, that horrible unnecessary door opening siren needs to go. Yes if anything they sound to me the wrong way around, where the opening is more of an alarm than the closing.

They really are ugly things as ceiling panels are always missing around them. They make ceilings look terrible.

Thought I'd list a few changes I've noticed recently:
The refurbishment of the footbridge at Honor Oak Park seems well underway.
General refurbishment of othe LO stations south of (and including) New Cross Gate is proceding with repainted lamposts and lots of coffin sized holes in the ground. I assume this is either foundations for new signage or seats. There's no sign currently of the new PIS.
Recently I've noticed at least one train now announcing "This is coach number 1 of 4" in a Joanna Lumley esque voice - very much like the Southern Electrostars.
Unrelated to LO but at London Bridge refurbishment the hoardings over the platform ends (concorse) are coming down showing that demolition over the barrier line is nearing completion.

Never been on a RRBS since Oyster that had any way of taking a fare. I'm pretty sure the ELL replacement buses had Oyster touch in, saying that I think the fare was £0.00. Also iBus worked on these routes too.

How would that work for people who have an Oyster PAYG with them but are using a paper ticket for that journey? I often do this when out photographing the system, and also when starting or finishing an intercity journey - for example, Cyprus to Paddington using PAYG and then Paddington to Bristol using a paper ticket (and then the reverse on the return journey). I could be charged for two incomplete journeys through no fault of my own. MAybe you need to invest in one of these www.firebox.com/product/2635/Ogon-RFID-Wallets?via=cat

More annoying at Euston is when a LM service arrives on the other platforms where there are no Oyster readers.

On the Goblin user group home page they are claiming that the exhaust issues with the 172s have now been fixed - does anyone have any information on this? It is in Modern Railways this month There was no fix as such, just that the test parameters were invalid. I think they've found a few tweeks that can be made but otherwise the original approach does work just fine and it was simply that the tests were wrong.

separate from my last post and I 'm not sure where this actually belongs, but I saw a picture of a german DB high-speed train on a test run in St pancras station alongside a eurostar yesterday. I'm not sure if this is the first time a full UIC profile train has been this far? Would the locos that rescued the Eurostar last winter not count?

Farringdon will be ammost completely undercover. This is the reason why the roof on the new footbridge looks so temporary - it is.

Travelled on it for the first time last night and in the same vain as the buses, two came at once though in opposite directions! Overall really impressed - I like the double seat bench a la 67s - it wasn't busy enough to notice whether you get the bounce when someone sits next to you! I did notice the heat, though it was a different kind of heat to the 67s as it did feel it the air was moving. The other thing was the door sounds, the sounds sound the wrong way around. When the door opens it's an alarm, when it closes it's a little informational squeak.

No problem, there are a couple of other helps coming by then. The 319 FCC refurbishment programme will be complete by then and so will the 465 refurbishments. One assumes that for the olympics there will be a full complement of units in service to maximise train lengths where at all possible.

cityboy, read my post again. Once the terminating platforms at Blackfriars re-open Southeastern will be able to run their services with 3rd rail only stock. The 319s currently fulfilling their role will return to dedicated Thameslink services, theus the 377s are actually a growth build.

12 car trains will be in use from Dec 2011. The 377s will provide this service until the new fleet comes in. 319s will remain 8 car as they are freed by Southeastern when the Blackfriars terminators (3rd rail only) resume at the same time.

the tunnels lead some way past Charing X in this direction. Apologies for going off-topic but is this the reason that the DLR is proposed to come to Charing Cross?

While I agree it's not a conspiracy, the Jubilee line upgrade seems to be a monumental engineering cockup. I used to live on the line and at the weekends it became frustratingly miserable. While people had to make do without the line before it was built, I moved there because of the line. The incessant closures do wind people up and I can understand why someone wants to vent it on here. I have never witnessed staff being harrassed over it and would never condone that. Thankfully I've moved away and now travel at weekends without needing to check the TfL board. A bug hug to those I left behind.
