Hmm, the only interchanges with Dark Blue are King's Cross St Pancras and Finsbury Park, I'm pretty certain it's not the former so Krap Yrubsnif?
Is this some kind of odd journey; Brixton to Finsbury, Network Rail to C, then somehow to Vauxhall?

A noblemans crossing........ ....on the dark blue line? Knightsbridge? But what has that to do with NR connections?

C is Knightsbridge. NR connections are peripheral to the link and don't explain why this station is one of the four

Interchanges are part of the answer, but they are not the key feature of the answer. Does that help?

Interchanges are part of the answer, but they are not the key feature of the answer. Does that help? Thinking out loud, with very little evidence: Is it to do with more than one exit with one of these opening up inside somewhere else (if that makes any sort of sense - I remember Knightsbridge having an exit away down the road next to Harrods, Vauxhall with one in the bus station? Brixton one in the rail station?) or possibly one of the exits having limited opening times? Which leads us to C maybe being Victoria (as Rincewind seemed to believe all might be on the Victoria Line and he has apparently taken photo C), as it has an exit inside the mainline station. Although if it was somewhere so big I would have thought it would have been recognised already.

This isn't to do with any physical characteristics of the station buildings. Station C was taken by Rincew1nd and it is not on the Victoria Line. It is though in Zone 1.

It isn't Covent Garden or any other Piccadilly Line station.

OK, so thus far: A=Brixton B=Knightsbridge C= , not on the Vic' nor Pic'. D=Vauxhall The link between the four is somehow linked to interchanges, but that's not the whole of the link. Neither is it anything to do with closed stations. Perhaps something to do with opening after the rest of the line to provide extra interchanges (though how Knightsbridge fits in I dunno, I'm just thinking out loud really)?

I think if you get "C", it'll be more obvious than you think lately.
But there is a blatant clue in that last statement, and latterly in this line......

Is it to do with the stations being named after local roads then? (considering I know "C")

No, not really.
I can't think of a clue that doesn't give it away. The word "interchange" is in the answer though.....

There is a list that places all the stations in a particular order. These four stations are selected from that list for a reason that is relevant to interchanges.
That might help more than SE13's clue.

Can the stations be put into some sort of order showing how many interchanges are possible?
Or how many exits they have onto the street?
Brixton (one) Knightsbridge Vauxhall Old Street (lots)
Otherwise how about the next move is "Mornington Crescent!"?

The physical characteristics of the station have already been ruled out How about the length of time for an Out of Station Interchange? I thought Mornington Crescent was yesterday!

"The number of interchanges" is very close the reason for these four stations being chosen from the list. However you need to be more specific than that. The number of exits to the street is not relevant to this question (but has given me an idea for a future one!)
